Description
Doom II reborn in a ravaged future, post‑nuked, mutant‑infested, unforgettable.
Ashes 2063 is a total conversion for the GZDoom engine that dismantles Doom II and rebuilds it as a survival‑oriented, Fallout‑meets‑S.T.A.L.K.E.R. adventure. This mod delivers a richly immersive journey through irradiated wastelands, gang‑ruled ruins, and mutant‑infested highways.
Dive Into a Wasteland Like No Other
A Gritty Rebuild of Doom – explore dozens of hand‑crafted maps filled with explosive, fast‑paced combat and tense exploration.
Post‑Nuclear Storytelling – step into the role of a scavenger navigating factions, mutants, and radiation while following a cryptic radio broadcast emanating from an irradiated metropolis.
Modern Mechanics in a Retro Shell – enjoy reloading, crouching, jumping, full mouse‑look, radiation effects, inventory, crafting, destructible environments, shops, NPC dialogue, unique death animations, and side quests. All layered over classic Doom engine mechanics.
Power, Peril, and Persistence
Wield a Savage Arsenal – from 9 mm pistols to improvised railguns, the mod delivers diverse, brutal weaponry and furious combat.
Unforgiving Challenge – face mutant dogs, raiders, crazed snipers, acid-spewing flora, and “Cannibal Warlords” in dual form- a merciless boss fight that tests reflexes and strategy.
Ambient Audio That Claws Its Way In – a haunting, award-winning soundtrack by John S. Weekley (aka PRIMEVAL) underpins every step with atmospheric weight.
Scrap. Survive. Scavenge. Explore.
Ashes 2063 is not just a conversion. It’s a redefinition of how far the Doom formula can be pushed. Dive into a world built on decay, and fight to escape its ashes.
The GOG version of Ashes 2063 currently includes Episode 1 and the Dead Man Walking DLC. More episodes will be added to the mod over time.

i played this with the gz doom source port, but man, this is probably one of the best mods / best games ever to grace this earth. you HAVE to play this if you're a fan of fallout, mad max, doom or classic boom shoot style games becasue its the perfect mix of all of those things. its an absolute blast from beggining to end. dont forget the prequel and sequel either!
I wouldn't say is a mod but rather a total conversion or even standalone GZDoom game.
The gameplay kinda feels like Duke Nukem 3D and Strife actually. They made use of many advanced GZDoom features borrowed from Build Engine such as destructibe terrain, mirrors, rooms over rooms, portals etc.. So it doesn't feel so much like a standard Doom game.
There are 3 episodes (and a 4th one is in the works but not out yet). All episodes have overlap in terms of enemies, weapons, story but they are a bit different.
Having played them all this is my personal impression of the different episodes:
-Ashes 2063 / Enriched this is the original game which became first episode. You get the motorcycle early on, features towns and has less of a hub feel. The game is more story focused but also feels like it has some mini hub areas but overall there is a linear progression.
-Afterglow is very long with different hub areas and can be grindy at times. You finish one hub then move to the next. It plays most like Strife. The ending is very good! Some levels are really good design too.
-Hard Reset which is the last one to be released in 2024 is shorter but has very unique mechanics on how weapons are upgraded and more linear and story focused as well as some unique enemies. This one is a bit more horror themed and very weird sometimes.
The game world feels like Fallout but the story is unique and I would say more inspired by Stalker game.
Weapons are pretty standard shotgun, machine gun, sniper rife, pistols etc. What is cool is weapon mods and the fact that you have have multiple weapons of the same type in 1 slot. You have work benches to mod your weapons damn good. Hard Reset goes even harder you can only do some upgrades by finding the right people.
You have ability to use some vehicles, talk to people and solve quests or puzzles in different ways, explore the world etc.
This is one of the best games I've experienced since maybe DUSK. This is basically for anyone who ever wanted to play an FPS in the Fallout universe, but wanted the gunplay to be actually *good*. Oh, and on top of everything else, the soundtrack will blow your socks off too.
Don't waste time, download it now and thank me later. Here's hoping we get Ashes Afterglow and Ashes Hard Reset added onto GoG as well...
