Description
Doom II reborn in a ravaged future, post‑nuked, mutant‑infested, unforgettable.
Ashes 2063 is a total conversion for the GZDoom engine that dismantles Doom II and rebuilds it as a survival‑oriented, Fallout‑meets‑S.T.A.L.K.E.R. adventure. This mod delivers a richly immersive journey through irradiated wastelands, gang‑ruled ruins, and mutant‑infested highways.
Dive Into a Wasteland Like No Other
A Gritty Rebuild of Doom – explore dozens of hand‑crafted maps filled with explosive, fast‑paced combat and tense exploration.
Post‑Nuclear Storytelling – step into the role of a scavenger navigating factions, mutants, and radiation while following a cryptic radio broadcast emanating from an irradiated metropolis.
Modern Mechanics in a Retro Shell – enjoy reloading, crouching, jumping, full mouse‑look, radiation effects, inventory, crafting, destructible environments, shops, NPC dialogue, unique death animations, and side quests. All layered over classic Doom engine mechanics.
Power, Peril, and Persistence
Wield a Savage Arsenal – from 9 mm pistols to improvised railguns, the mod delivers diverse, brutal weaponry and furious combat.
Unforgiving Challenge – face mutant dogs, raiders, crazed snipers, acid-spewing flora, and “Cannibal Warlords” in dual form- a merciless boss fight that tests reflexes and strategy.
Ambient Audio That Claws Its Way In – a haunting, award-winning soundtrack by John S. Weekley (aka PRIMEVAL) underpins every step with atmospheric weight.
Scrap. Survive. Scavenge. Explore.
Ashes 2063 is not just a conversion. It’s a redefinition of how far the Doom formula can be pushed. Dive into a world built on decay, and fight to escape its ashes.
The GOG version of Ashes 2063 currently includes Episode 1 and the Dead Man Walking DLC. More episodes will be added to the mod over time.

Downloaded this for free and to be honest, it's better than a lot of games I've paid for. Sure the graphics are simple, but that has it's own charm these days. For what they're working with, Doom II basically, they did a really good job. Playing it on Survivor mode which makes it more intense. I have to be careful with ammo and supplies and be careful how I approach fights. Easily spent 2 hours and lost track of time.
It's free and fun so why not get it?
One of the best post apocalyptic fps experiences I've had in some time. I quickly grew addicted to this game. The amount of content and detail in what's ultimately a doom 2 mod is insane. I highly recommend this fans of the fallout (FPS) and stalker games, who appreciate retro FPS experiences.
This game was a runner-up in the 2018 Cacowards, and in my opinion it should've placed higher than that. If you like Doom, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and Fallout, you owe it to yourself to play this game. It's one of the best total conversions out there. The level design is great, with plenty of well-hidden secrets to reward exploration. And you're going to want to explore as much as you can to find junk that you can sell at the hub to get better gear. The weapons are impactful, appropriate for the setting, and just plain fun to use. And the soundtrack is just plain inspired. Inspired by John Carpenter to be exact. At a price of $0, there's no reason not to give it a try. And if you end up liking it, then there are sequels and side-story games that you can grab on ModDB.
A2063 Is by far one of the best TCs ever. Everything was carefully crafted. Like others said, this is a Doom mod (or Total Conversion, in this case) that plays and feels more like a 3D engine game in the world of Fallout. The story is intriguing, there are some subplots that while they are optional, they add to the whole narrative. The atmosphere is on point and the combat is incredible.
If you try it (and for 0$ you should) you should know there is a Prequel/spin off (Dead Man Walking) that works as an expansion of the world and then there are 2 sequels, Afterglow, which is hands down the BEST doom TC of this kind, and Hard Reset which I didn't play it yet (shame on me) and didn't read anything to avoid spoilers...
Go and experience Ashes 2063, and then go grab Afterglow and get blown. And if you can, go and find Vostyok and give him a hug (or donate some coffee).
Trying to do precise platforming sections in the doom engine is an exercise in wasted effort. The doom engine's roller-skate style movement, momentum and hacked-in jump make these sections a mindboggling inclusion. While the Metro-Ranger style difficulty is really fun, tense and difficult, the platforming is unpleasant enough to deter me from playing this at all.
