Promising but ultimately leads nowhere

I played using Arx Liberatis. Game is worth checking out just for its novelty. It has an excellent skill system, enjoyable combat, good atmosphere and setting... but in my opinion it completely fails on the actual plot. There is so much hinted at yet so little delivered. The game doesn't hold your hand at all or really restrict your freedom in any way, so it'll be right up the alley of anyone who enjoys discovering secrets/learning obscure mechanics. Of course the other side of the coin is that you can completely screw yourself over with poor choices. Some necessary steps for progress are given next to no hints as well, so a guide will be necessary for most players. Try not to spoil yourself any more than necessary though.

Not Morrowind clone!!

First of all, this is not Morrowind clone but could i say this game is better than Morrowind? My answer is no it is not. These two games are not in the same category at all. Arx Fatalis takes place beneath the surface after their Sun died off, reasons i am not gonna share. So all the all the species worked together to move the entire human populous underground so they can survive the cold which impacted the surface. The entire game is about the underground. Is it dungeon crawler? No not in a sense, every level is different and almost every level represents (sort of) different species and culture. In my opinion combat is far better than Morrowind, you have your weak attack and strong attack which are almost similar to Oblivion. Bow although is kinda terrible. It has some kind of glitch where you need to go to blacksmith to repair it in order to replenish them. Sneak is practically useless but you can still manage to steal some things and you need to be fast about it or you will be caught. Magic is the most unique thing in this game and i love it, you need to collect runes in order to learn magic and you need to move your mouse around in order to make magic happen. Inventory wise i thing its better than Morrowind, its more limited and realistic and you need to manage it right otherwise you will need to make a lot of trips to town to sell things. This game is old and treat it that way and you will have a blast. I am glad i had the chance to play it, very unique gem that is worth your while if you have time and patience to play it. I hope you enjoy it as much as i did!

Great game for the money

If you've worn out all of the classic RPGs but don't have a good enough rig to play the newer games coming out, you should seriously consider checking this out. It is a little buggy, and there is probably one character build that is far better than all others, but other than that I only have positive things to say about this game. It's got great atmosphere, a combat system that gets the job done, an interesting magic system that I imagine was quite unique at release, a few puzzles here and there, a good end boss, and just enough side quests to keep most people interested. I honestly can't think of a better way to spend 5 bucks if you've got the free time for an RPG.

awsome game!

I must say,ARX FATALIS was an awsome game!however, one thing that disapointed me was that I thought this would be like an ELDER SCROLLS game,But it wasnt. Its just one of those classic first person RPG's.But I must say nthat this is a grate game.If you enjoyed DARK MESSIA MIGHT AND MAGIC,or just want to keep yourself bussy, then this is definetly a game thats worth playing!

If you use Linux this is a must!

Incredibly easy to install, and it runs on my fitpc3 with a slow AMD APU. If you use an Ubuntu spin(I use Mint) then the PPA from project Arx Libertatis (google it) has everything you need to install from the GOG exe. Even if you play it on Windows then you should look into the Arx Libertatis project, it is an update on the source and allows 1080p play and much much better frame rate with fewer glitches!
