Sarge and RTS. Simple and Fun!

Army Men RTS. It’s an RTS (Real Time Strategy), little green army men …. and woman, and of course various army vehicles, what else could you ask for? Actually, it leaves me asking for a little bit more. I’m used to other bigger RTS titles with more upgrades for your bases, and other functions for your units. However, this title is about little green army men, so I wasn’t expecting some mind-blowing experience. The game’s sound is good, the controls are easy to use, the graphics are pretty good for an army men game, and the game runs super smooth on my Windows 10 gaming PC. The gameplay, as I said earlier has some upgrades you can do to your base, which keeps it a little interesting while your playing. Unless you have to kill everything on the map before finishing, like myself, you can run through most of the levels with ease. The game does provide a moderate amount of enjoyment, as each level gives you a couple goals to try and achieve before you deliver the final blow or reach the final objective for each level. If you’re an RTS fan, don’t mind the lack of upgradeable objects in your bases, and just want to sit down and burn some time turning the tan army into puddles of bubbling plastic; then I would recommend giving this game a try. I give it a 4/5, 1 for the graphics and smooth running on my PC, 1 for the ease of control, and 1 for it being an RTS, and 1 for the simple relaxing gameplay

Unique genre of game

Ive always been fond of the plastic army men games since I was a kid. Of course toy story was probably the catalyst of interest along with small soldiers and the small comics called commandos. Revisiting the games on ps1 and ps2 is great but in particular the graphics on ps2 for RTS are too terrible, making it to hard to differentiate objects and words. I never knew about GOG abut found this game for sale on ebay which brought me here. I am so glad that the graphics are so much clearer to the point you can see tank tracks! I think the army men in this game are wonderful and the voice overs are entertaining, Im very impressed with this and all the other army men games. They seem to embrace an element of gaming modern games do not. I found GOGs version much easier to follow than ps2s versionk, so its great to learn things I missed before.

A very simple, unique amazing RTS

The only thing that really bothers me about it is the unit pathing, it's painful how long it takes for the units to stop bumping into eachother and move to another place, I found myself making CTRL+1,2,3... squads of my main zerg of units just so I can control the infantry, fast moving vehicles and tanks seperately so they won't keep colliding with eachother as much when I try to move them. However the setting is very unique, it's like every kid's dream to control army men as if they were alive, the fact that you harvest plastic and electricity from items and the plastic blobs units/buildings leave behind after they are destroyed is great, I personally don't mind that there are no different factions with different types of units, but I know some people dislike it. The missions also have variety, some are the basic build/train/destroy, some are focused on using just a group of special units to progress through the level or when you have to capture/defend a base until you build enough units to progress.

Okay, but with severe enjoyment flaws

I played this game in the mid 2000's. I never remember finishing the game back then. I did so this year. The good: - Good idea; - Graphics are nice; - Lots of explosions; - Long campaign with various objectives; - Units (soldiers) are actually useful and you need to use them according to their specialities; - Some silly humour, sometimes too safe, sometimes adult jokes. The bad: - Pathfinding SUCKS!!! It is the worst pathfinding I ever saw in any game I played. The pathfinding is so broken it ruined my enjoyment and it will ruin yours. Units will constantly collide with each other and will just prevent each other from moving. They will form long lines despite the fact that other games of the era could do formations. The hitboxes are too large for the units. Two soldiers cannot pass one another if too close and by close I mean quite a distance. - Many achievements are locked behind timed goals, over half of them are just timed and timed and timed. It is such a disgusting requirement that you will get tired. Why would you care about the achievements? Because they unlock extra missions. - The unit noises are repetitive. - Besides the medics and the helicopters, all other mechanized units are trash and a waste of resources, don't even bother. The halftrack and tanks are garbage and should be avoided since they are not that easily repairable and take a long time. Did I mention the timed goals? You're better off making 10 bazooka soldiers than 2 tanks. They will also be able to shoot down aircraft. Make 2-3 snipers, 20 bazooka soldiers, 3 mortars and you are set to win most games. Of course don't forget the medics and you will need about 3 of them. This is for the fans of older games. Don't buy this if you don't like difficult games. This ain't an easy game to play.
