classic game, very nostalgic

Army Men was one of my childhood favorites, with simplisitc war story of the green army vs. the tan army based on the long-running popular plastic solider toys which itself heavily based on WWII. old-school isometic tactical shooter with some strategy involved. you play as Sargent Hawk, you're mission is to kill as many tan soliders, help you're squad and sabotage any tan operation to prevent them from winning the war on the plastic world. this game doesn't take itself too seriously despite being more grounded and realistic then the later games, voice acting is very corny and the plot is basic as they come, but the focus is on it's charm and uniqueness as you play small plastic soliders in a big war. i tried so many years to run it on modern hardware with no luck at all, it's common with alot of mid to late 90's PC games that can barely run on anything post Windows XP. the fact it this finally playable on Windows 10 is a blessing.

Army Men, trilogy trend setter

As the first installment for the Army men series, the game has it's highs and lows. High points being the story, you play as a Sergeant in the green army fighting the invading TAN; atmospher you're overwhelmed in every mission, some missions are dull; and the feeling of playing "real combat" with plastic men. The lows are the joystick era controls, which are fixed in later additions; and the terrible AI ally controles, which continues throughout the first three games and is only fixed in Army Men RTS. Coming from beating the second and then playing the first, there are no human weapons like the magnifying glass, bug spray, or M80s; instead you'll be forced to work with flamethrowers, mortors, explosives, and tanks to beat the tan army.

Great fun, great challenge

Review based on CD version. It is the little things that often make the biggest difference. The setting for Army Men was faithfully implemented, right down to chips of plastic coming off when an army man is shot. The missions are fun and vary from seek and destroy, to escort, to simply crossing the map alive. Some are fairly challenging, but all are fun. Pick this up and enjoy the full suite of "army man" weapons, from rifles to mortars to bazookas, as you blow away tan soldiers, avoid blues, and catch those sneaky grays.

Retro Plastic Warfare

Lose that tub of army men you had growing up? No problem, you can't lose these little foot soldiers. Take a knee, line up your sights and blast those filthy tan soldiers from behind cover. Or lob a mortar over their base ontop that pesky watch tower. Order your men into cover and take out that enemy tank as quick as you can with a bazooka. Lob a grenade into the enemy platoon or better yet, just call in an airstrike. Just keep your eye on the enemy flame thrower infantry, or you'll be inviting them over for a barbecue. Retro fun with a sprinkle of that old school difficulty. But if you find yourself frustrated, just throw in a few cheat codes and go john rambo. Only pet peeve I have with the game are the mouse controls. Ended up playing keyboard only, but that wasn't too much of a problem since when you use cover correctly the enemy has a hard time taking you down. A 90s Classic.

Unplayable

I am unable to play the game properly, as when I get into one of the levels, I'm greeted with a mostly black screen unable to see anything outside of a few UI elements.
