Doug Cockle (famous for his voice acting in Victor Vran and The Witcher series) plays the role of Ashley’s berating father. It tries to do something great...

But is just sort of OK. The gameplay loop can be tedious and not very user-friendly with lots of timers and schedule cut-offs. It can feel frustrating or like the only way to fulfill the task it wants successfully is to pay far too much attention to it. The setting is nice, but small with rough-around-the-edges graphics for a game that really needs immersion given its casual nature and high pricepoint. It fails to live up to 'mindless fun.' Also, nominally its a reasonably priced game, but the devs have decided to make users buy additional arcade games as "DLC", even though they are a crucial part of the gameplay. The problem is that the arcade games are small in scope and uneven in terms of quality. It's really alienating to see a flood of paid DLC when its inevitable that you will find at least some of them not fun.

Good but not great

The basis of the idea is pretty good: run a business with a laundromat front and an arcade, the "real" money-maker, in the back. Besides managing the laundromat, you're supposed to play the Arcade games to make them more popular by accomplishing tasks on each of them, which will increase money earned (as well as give you a secondary currency to make tasks easier) The thing is, while the arcade minigames are pretty cute, they are also arcade hard, and many of the tasks will require a lot of time investment, skillful gameplay or trial and error to get right. On the one hand I understand the logic, on the other I feel like too much attention has been put on capturing the "feel" of arcade games, at the cost of massively slowing down progress. You can technically advance the game without ever playing any of the Arcades, but it'll leave you with many tedious tasks like emptying the money hoppers by hand. Likewise, the laundromat work is tedious, and often unrewarding. Other reviewers have remarked that you can ignore that part of the game without repercussions, though that feels counter-intuitive. Maybe you could get popularity or more customers for doing those tasks? Or a laundromat-exclusive currency? Like the arcade cabinets, it does a good job at capturing the "feel" of tedious repetitive labour, but that does not equal a good game. After the novelty wears off, it's just tedious. Oh, and PLEASE let us pick up that one sock in the arcade area, that looks exactly like trash but actually isn't. Unless I haven't found the hitbox for it, because that's what happens to me with 80% of the trash items.

Folding Underwear & Chasing High Scores

Arcade Paradise is the ultimate ‘90s fantasy you didn’t know you had: running a laundromat while secretly building an arcade empire in the back room. Because, let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to spend their days alternating between folding someone else’s underwear and pretending you're Pac-Man chomping through a pile of quarters? You play as Ashley Goldman, who, in her father's absence, manages King Wash laundromat. Of course, instead of just sticking to the super exciting world of laundry, you decide to open an arcade. Because that's a natural career move, right? It’s basically a simulation of playing a game inside a game where you buy games to play games so you can afford more games. Talk about meta. From Pong knock-offs to games that definitely aren’t Rad Racer, each machine you unlock is a nod to the classics, albeit with a clever twist. The game will keep you busy for hours, mainly because you will want to buy all the games just to play them (there are a lot). You bought a game, and now you get to buy more. Have fun.

Pretty darn cool!

Part laundry simulator, part time management strategy, part mini game goodness ala arcade games. 6 hours deep and I'm enjoying the heck out of it!

Great Little Game But.....

It can get a little tedious and boring sometimes and progress is very slow so don't expect to unlock everything instantly or gain money fast, I wouldn't call it a game for fun purposes its more of a time waster game I feel. Its taken me away from all the rubbish that's going on with Helldivers 2 anyway so I've been alright with it, graphics are decent it isn't some cheap looking game has reflections and just looks good for what it is. Sounds in the arcade are retro which is cool and you can play them which is awesome bit like GTA5 Online arcade just it's not a drug/illegal money making scheme, in this your Dad just doesn't know lol. I havent got much unlocked yet it's only been 4hrs but it does take a while to earn cash from the Laurandrett to buy new arcades but like I said it's a time waster game for me personally
