ANNO 1701 A.D. includes Anno 1701 and its expansion Anno 1701: The Sunken Dragon.
ANNO 1701 is the most elaborate and expensive game production in the German speaking region and the sequel to the most successful, multi-million selling game series of all times. The third part of the unique combination of different genres creates a real-time building game and is also set in 16th and
17th century, the era of discoveries and maritime trade.
For the first time, players of all experience levels were included in the development and could help significantly to make the unique gaming experience now even more accessible. The player is engaged in creating, expanding and maintaining a flourishing metropolis, while communicating with other players or interacting with other parties via trade or diplomacy.
Become a rich merchant, virtuoso builder or experienced strategist – the open structure of ANNO will reward any individual approach! The fascinating vibrancy of the self-built world, the ever present interaction with the player and an enthralling atmosphere offering excitement and fun will grip everyone who ever played ANNO 1701 A.D. forever.
Unique combination of city-building strategy, trade, discovery, diplomacy and battle.
Maximum interaction with the game environment through numerous event details, such as cheering or protesting of the people, lovingly animated and composed characters, and through trade and diplomacy with foreign people.
Extremely detailed and vivid graphics with innovative effects and breathtaking realism in flora and fauna, in the city or in occurring natural disasters, such as tornados, volcanic eruptions or earthquakes.
Perfect introduction, even for the less experienced player, for example with the unique ‘Info mode’ and a simplified, clearly structured user interface.
Excitement without fail in over 100 different voluntary special tasks (Sub-Quests), which are dynamically integrated into the game and provide useful rewards.
Secret diplomacy with special tasks such as sabotage, espionage or demagogy allow for an intelligent, strategic approach.
Multi-player mode for up to 4 players via LAN and the option of cooperative play.
Military element with troop formation and feedback in spectacular land and sea battles.
This was one of my favorite games in the series, a classic of the Anno series. But currently the GOG version is unoptimised for newer machines and systems plus crashes happen occasionally during the game.
I would recommend buying the Anno History Collection on Ubisoft Store since most of the titles in that list has been optimised for the latest systems so if you want a hassle free experience of the classic Anno series then I would start there.
I played Anno 1602 when it was released, and I really liked it. It was hard at first and made me struggle a lot. But overall despite the struggle, or even because of it I really have great memories to that game. I played it until I had achieved everything leaving me with a positive feeling to really accomplished something. When I got this game for Christmas after it came out I played it and the magical spirit for this game was gone. I played through this game entirely without resistance. I saw everything and though I had already seen it. When I finished this game I had no big memories connected to it. There was no struggle, and no moment of "Ah, now I got it". Everything here feels streamlined and blunt. I have to admit, building trading routes is better than in 1602, but gameplay wise it is the same but without the magic to experience it for the first time or giving me any nostalgic feelings I have with the first game. For me this was a disappointment. I am not comparing this game with 1503, because 1503 really did try to do something new, and I wouldn't say I played it enough. This is also the last game of this series that I played.
Having to use Ctrl Alt Delete with Task Manager set to "always on top" to be able to alt tab
Ships and some other things in water seem to have low fps animations which looks off compared to the smooth water
There's no shortcut key to for placing roads
The keybind used to let you place more than one of a thing at a time is hidden? (it's holding Left Shift)
You can't adjust the tracked resources in the top left
The in-game cutscenes are not skippable
The water is too darn pretty! ò_ó
Under WineSkin, latest version (WS9Wine1.7.55) does not work, but engine version WS9Wine1.5.27 works just fine.
Installation fails (error around 90%), but despite it I had no problems playing multiplayer with it. Still, you prolly can extract files from installer manually, if anything is missing for single player games.
It's the first 3D Anno game and really great. But if you played Anno 1404 and later you'll miss the mouse controls like drag the camera with right mouse button and the quick menu. I doubt it that Anno History Collection will brings it. Anyway, ... it's a good game.
