Description

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third-person open world survival game where you Explore, Expand, and Evolve to advance your clan to the next generation in this exhilarating new adventure from Panache Digital Games.

Embark on the most incredible odyssey known to humankind: human evolution. Spanning from 10 million to 2 million years ago, begin your journey, before us, in Neogene period Africa. Explore a beautiful yet ruthless world, from swinging through tree branches in the jungle to stalking prey across the golden savannah grasslands. Decide what attributes to learn and hone in order to pass down knowledge to future generations, from crafting tools to enhancing evasive tactics against predators. Just like real life, make sure to eat, drink, and sleep to stay alive and have the energy to face any danger that may come your way.

Grow your clan and find strength in numbers as you progress through critical evolutionary stages of human evolution. Your choices will write your clan’s story and determine if you can survive your evolution.

Explore Ruthless Africa

Explore the never-before-experienced world of Neogene Africa starting 10 million years ago at the dawn of humankind. From the tops of tree canopies overlooking lush jungles to the golden grasslands of the savannah, traverse a beautiful yet unforgiving landscape. For every breath-taking view, beware of the weather, predators, and other dangers that threaten your survival.

Expand Your Territory and Grow Your Clan

Increase your chances of survival by uniting new members of your species and giving birth to future generations. Control different clan members, form bonds to create families, and work together to intimidate predators during expeditions. Conquer fear as you explore unknown locations in order to expand your territory.

Evolve Through Multiple Generations

See the physical and intellectual evolution of the first hominids as you explore, learn, and survive. Spanning from 10 million to 2 million years ago, play as one of the first hominids and evolve over the course of millions of years during key stages in human evolution. Make crucial discoveries and hone physical abilities that will be passed down to future generations such as Ardipithecus ramidus and Australopithecus.

Choose How You Survive

Evolution was not written in stone. Your decisions shape how you will overcome obstacles, increase your species, and what knowledge will pass on to future generations. Focus on specific attributes or choose a more balanced approach to survival. Your clan’s ability to survive will be directly impacted by your choices, making each player’s experience unique.

Great concept but gameplay sucks

I really wanted to love this game because I love history and I tend to like nerdy games like this one. The concept is unique but execution sucks. Most actions are based on pressing and releasing a key in the correct moment. However, it often glitches and it can get pretty frustrating. Take combat for example. You're supposed to press and release a key in the right moment based on a visual or audio cue. For some people it works, for other people the game simply doesn't display those cues and they don't know why. Or even if it does the character doesn't perform the combat action and there's no way knowing why. Also, you should only play this game if you own a gamepad. With keyboard and mouse, you're fucked. Of course, developers will only tell you this in the initial cutscene in the beginning of the game - you know, once you have already bought it and paid for it :)

a real caveman game.slow to apperciate.

this is the first thing the video game industry ever had to a true game about cavemen: no superpowers or beastmastery,no fancy gliders or cartoonish club bopping: just the very scary, very true to reality story of human evolution during the late neogene and the rise of homo habilis... the game doesn't guide you well as to what you can or cant do but then again: pre prehistoric man didn't exactly have a "how to survive the baby steps of humanity guide" with them either. once you get the hang of it tho,it is a beautiful experience that feels almost romantic: your seeing the baby steps of the people who eventually became us and thats a beautiful thing to witness. i would recommend this game in a heartbeat just by how rare it is to have an honest realistic depiction of primordial man in gaming but before i go: i wanna address the desilets in the room: if your going into this thinking your getting "assassins creed primal" your dead wrong: this has about as much to do with AC as the AC series itself has to do with air conditioning: the movement is no where near as seemless, the production quality is no where near as atmospheric and any aspect of design is no where near the inflated budget of the game series the lead designer was intially famous for but, then again: empire earth had no where near the quality of age of empires and rick goodman still made a timeless classique so sometimes, less is more and more is less....just keep that in mind if your picking this us.

Return to MONKEY!

Wow, never before has my chafing need for "unga-bunga" been scratched more by a survival-crafting game. I'm honestly surprised this isn't more popular than a select few Youtubers giving it just 20mins of their time. First off, the game expects you to learn and figure things out on your own. There is a tutorial option but trust me when I say it's mostly just there to help you not immediately hate the game out of your own ape given confusion and it's great! It's not very often I feel so blatantly respected as the player of a game, so for Devs to expect a brain cell from me? How mind blowing in and of itself! And what makes this work is the clear amount of time and effort that went into making this game a digestible experience for a blind playthrough. EVERYTHING is there for you to become immersed as monkey. Secondly, it's almost just a sandbox. But... So nothing is just handed to you, it's there for you to learn so now what? We as a species survived and changed by experimentation and innovation, and so will you in this game. Although this extends to more than just tools, you will need to learn to crawl before you can walk. Quite literally. And this extends to everything, from learning about various latent dangers to what a rock does. And so although unspoken, your primary "quest" is to learn how to evolve at all lest you doom yourself and tribe to stagnation. So I'm not sure what people don't like about this game. I get that it's a little repetitive but aren't most if not all games? I mean, there has to be a gameplay loop. What I can't help but wonder is that maybe people just didn't have the patience upon it's release. They played it for a moment and just got mad when the game wasn't spoon fed. They refused to accept that they needed to adapt in order to overcome or even understand. Our ancestors, the proto-humans, did this once. And they who refused to adapt perished, while their still curious brethren made it out alive: So what kind of gamer are you?

Intresting concept

Pretty intresting concept, solidly made i think, but can be a bit overwhelming at the beginning. There is a lot of systems you need to get a hang of. The game is designed so you need to experiment in order to learn how to play, so you need to give it some time and allow yourselve to fail. I've only just started but it's nice to discover new things and there is a lot to discover here I think. But it might not be for everyone.
