You can’t let out a breath. The creature is only inches away. Its sole purpose - to feed off your terror. And so you crouch in the dark, trying to stop the fear rising, trying to silence what lies within you.

“I know you. I know what you're capable of.”

In Amnesia: Rebirth, you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.

“Do not allow yourself anger, do not allow yourself to fear.”

Time is against you. Step into Tasi’s shoes and guide her through her personal terror and pain. While you struggle to make your way through a desolate landscape, you must also struggle with your own hopes, fears, and bitter regrets. And still you must continue, step by step, knowing that if you fail you will lose everything.

Hero mother

As a restarted version of the series of games, it has taken its own path with a new posture and retained most of the excellent settings of the first installment. Okay: +Modern visuals +The portrayal of pregnant women is impressive (the voice actor has worked hard) +Some good details (footprints in the sand) +Retained most of the mechanics of the first game (although the door opened a bit heavy) +Well done in some dark scenes +After failing 1-3 times, the monsters in the level scene have already allowed players to pass Not very ideal: -There is a dark room full of pedal mechanisms, although it cannot be denied that the design idea is very interesting, I'm sorry I got lost. -You can add some maps to the game scene appropriately to alleviate the problem of getting lost -There are too many text documents, although they have successfully written the background of the story -The triggered recall dialogue will directly cover the screen with images. (Many times)

The exposition machine got stuck at 11

If you're looking for terror, this is the game. But not for what you think. My hair went up on my back each time there was a flashback or an internal monologue. And that's ALL THE TIME. Basil Exposition from Austin Powers was terminally ill at this point and the creators of the game gave him free rein to write the shitties exposition dialogues in the history of the written word before he died of word cancer. The voice acting sealed the deal with the most unconvincing delivery one can possibly imagine that's at odds with the context every time. Suggestion: the next time around hire a professional story and dialogue writer and VO talent. This is an absolute abomination.

Disturbing, immersive horror experience

Amnesia: Rebirth is a brave game. It isn't as scary as its predecessor or Outlast, and its story isn't as strong as SOMA. Frictional doubled-down on two key elements: incredible atmospheric immersion, and a brave choice of protagonist. Their gamble pays off. First the immersion. A:R has gorgeous textures, Lovecraftian lighting, exquisite sound design, and a protagonist with a full body that plays an integral role in the gameplay. Play it with headphones on in a dark room at night, and it soaks the creepiness into your bone marrow. A:R has fewer monster encounters than A:TDD, it seemed to me, but they're utterly terrifying when they do come (especially The Hunting Grounds). Instead, A:R focuses on their mechanic that the darkness is your greatest enemy. I spent a lot of time in this game worrying about being caught alone in the dark without matches or lantern oil. The crackling sound that comes as the tentacles crawl acroess your screen is wicked; you'll do anything to keep it away. The game has fantastic environments, inventive puzzles, and a few chase sequences (they're better than Outlast 2). While the story isn't the strongest, the excellent voice acting and realistic world-building makes up for it. More importantly, I love this protagonist. Unlike the "nominal" female hero in Metroid or Tomb Raider games, here she really means something. A pregnant hero, who goes through the cycles of pregnancy as the game evolves, not just visually but as a basic mechanic to the game. Her water breaks, you even have to guide her to breastfeed her newborn; it's wonderful to see games expanding to include far more experiences in its characters. Tasi is wonderfully voiced, lovingly rendered, and a joy to have as an avatar. It's as much art as game, and if you loved Amnesia, this gives you so much more context for the story. If you loved SOMA, this provides another startling world, full of monsters, but also full of beauty. Highly recommended.

Dark, creepy, full of wonders,...

First: Because of many bugs, I never completed "Amnesia: The dark Descent", that many reviewers use as a benchmark. From the beginning, "Amnesia: Rebirth" has more similarities with "Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs", but instead of some greed guy that made many mistakes out of profit, you get the feeling that your characters made mistakes and will make mistakes just to survive and help beloved people to survive. This game has the most varied environment of all Frictional Games titles by now. You have many scenes in sunlit environments, just to get forced to enter dark frightful ruins, caves or sewers. That creates a lot more tension than just wandering in the dark forever. To top it: Amnesia teleports you to an alien world, with alien machines, records of lost expedition crew and scattered records of a tale full of wonders, hope and horror. At this point, Amnesia: Rebirths plays like Obduction - Halloween Edition. At this point the game plays the organ of feelings with you: hope, love, fright, passion, fear, wonder, hate. If you like Stories like H.P. Lovecrafts Mountains of Madness, or think URU would be better with hunting shadows trying to kill you, give Amnesia:Rebirth a chance.
