You can’t let out a breath. The creature is only inches away. Its sole purpose - to feed off your terror. And so you crouch in the dark, trying to stop the fear rising, trying to silence what lies within you.

“I know you. I know what you're capable of.”

In Amnesia: Rebirth, you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.

“Do not allow yourself anger, do not allow yourself to fear.”

Time is against you. Step into Tasi’s shoes and guide her through her personal terror and pain. While you struggle to make your way through a desolate landscape, you must also struggle with your own hopes, fears, and bitter regrets. And still you must continue, step by step, knowing that if you fail you will lose everything.

  • First-person narrative horror experience
  • Explore environments and uncover their histories.
  • Overcome puzzles that stand in your way.
  • Carefully manage your limited resources, both physical and mental.
  • Encounter horrific creatures and use your wits and understanding of the world to escape them.

Better than A Machine For Pigs

Don't expect a Dark Descent successor but it's a great game and expirience, this games turns the saga from a full horror game into a narrative game with a few spooky moments. The story is not bad but if you don't connect with it the game will be boring for you, because there a lot of interrupts of the gameplay to show flashbacks and a lot of narration from the protagonist. In The Dark Descent you supposed to be the protagonist with Daniel mostly being quiet the entire game. Here frictional games presents you a protagonist that you have to connect with because of the constantly narration of the events from her perspective. Resource management is rougher here than Dark Descent, is very limited and you have to search everywhere for matches and oil, because it doesn't it doesn't last long. Feels more like a survival game. Took me like 9 hours to finish it, the first hour its very calmly, after that the game gets better. My favorite part was The fort. The puzzles are not hard but some of them requiere attention to details. For me this game is better than A machine for pigs (5 hour game with a simplified gameplay)

Such an amazing experience...

It's a horror-adventure game with such a cool narrative. Who ever loves SOMA and is open for a differenct scenario will love it. Who ever wanted a simple Amnesia-Sequel which just wants to be the scarierst game will be disappointed. This is clearly not the goal of this one. It's so much more than that.

Fantastic

Normally, I would wait to finish a game before reviewing it, but as some of the other people clearly didn't make it past the first half hour before giving up and deciding to flame this Amnesia entry, I suppose I won't wait to finish it either. Please ignore what every other review says. I'm sorry, but they're wrong. Have you noticed that not one of them can point to why they don't like Tasi? I saw a couple even claiming Simon is more relatable than her, but I don't know of anyone on GOG who is a 19th century madman with enormous funds to pour into some weird vague machinery. The lore is spaced just fine. Again, others don't realize that because they don't even make it to the first hub. Sure, it's a bit heavy in the beginning, but that's hardly unexpected. Hardly gamebreaking. And then of course, there are the "walking simulator" complaints. Once again, try playing for more than 20 minutes. I'm enjoying the story, the enemies and environs are plenty scary, and the gameplay is very satisfying and puzzle-y. My only complaint is that the lantern's lack of efficiency breaks suspension of disbelief, somewhat. Otherwise, I love it. Get it, try it, and please actually make it past the story set-up sequence.

One of the 2020 GOTY

Great middle ground between Amnesia TDD's horror simulation and SOMA's philosophical oriented gameplay. Yes, it;s not as spooky as Amnesia TDD but it is more spooky than SOMA. It hits a great middle ground in terms of puzzles for me (I found Amnesia TDD to have way too many puzzles stopping game progress at every little step when all I wanted was to go forward). I also don't understand the criticism that says immersion is ruined when the character speaks (why, because it's a female voice?). You are wearing the skin of a very particular character and Frictional Games made 100% sure you will feel like that character. Nothing wrong with that. I also feel this game has done some many things for the first time in a videogame that it's likely to be a cult hit but I can't talk more about those details to avoid spoling the surprise.

it's pretty good

i really enjoyed my time with it. the plot, pacing and lore (especially because it's tied in with the dark descent) are great. people online are talking about 'jumpscares' but that's really not a thing. it's a mechanic (that has since been toned down) that flashes the screen when your sanity is low, or during 'death' scenes. It happened to me so rarely that it's really not bad at all. the only thing that did bother me though, is the at times ridiculous and annoying overreliance on enemies. be they chase sequences (not as bad) or stealth sections, they were quite detrimental to the gradual errosion of my immersion / suspension of disbelief: when you 'die' to an enemy and have to retry a section in *any* horror game, all the tension is gone because now you've seen the enemy, and it's not about not knowing what's going on and being scared (which this game pulls of quite well before you die) anymore. Instead, it's now about beating ai with shitty passive stealth that makes you hide and stare holes into the air while you wait for it to pass, only to then be one pixel off it's fov and fail anyways. Every subsequent failure to be in the right place at the right time pulls you further out of the game and just ends in frustration. Frictional seem to know that this style of stealth in horror games is outdated and sucks, Since they introduced an no-enemy mode to soma after a while but for some reason didn't bring it back for rebirth. Instead, in 9/10 times when you die to an enemy you respawn but the enemy is gone. This isn't the greatest solution because it ended in me just yeeting myself into enemies so i can die and explore in peace. BUT There is some times where the enemy doesn't dissapear because the game wants you to do *one very specific thing* to progress, so you are deadlocked in some parts of the game until you deal with the enemy. all in all i still enjoyed it greatly though and if they add a no-enemy mode like in soma it's gonna be a 5/5 for me.
