No other game will be better than this one.
It's with a heavy heart that I have to abandon this game. I would have given it 5 stars and a great review, had I been able to take down the drawbridge with a stone. I have seven rocks lying on the lower drawbridge. However, the bridge proves to be too high for my throwing ability to take it down. And I therefore can't continue in the game. Sniff sniff.
This game could start a whole new subgenre of Horror games: True Horror.
I'm an admitted Silent Hill fan boy. I love the series and all of it's horror, but it doesn't hold a candle to Amnesia. Amnesia is the kind of game that can and will keep you awake at night with all of the lights on in the house.
It's the little things that Amnesia does right. For instance, when your character starts whimpering in fear, it's very difficult to keep it together. When you hear that, your brain just screams at you to turn the game off and run and hide.
Five stars just isn't enough.
Right from the beginning I felt the tension but was not unnecessarily scared... at first. Then when I running from something I didn't even know what it is... man, my heart throbbed like hell. It felt a bit similar when I played Call of Cthulhu at the motel room. Anyway thats the way any horror game should operate.
This is not a typical popout scare type of game, it's more about the mental part. You are thinking that something is going to happen and that is what builds up all the tension, when nothing actually happens. The other great thing that made this game 10 times more terrifying is that you are basically defenseless. You have no weapons to fight back at the monsters, there fore you are more afraid to go into that dark room, for an example. You start to feel like if your character dies, you will also.
The puzzles in this game are also quite clever and fun for the most parts, it will keep you interested and make you want to keep playing.
One thing more, the voice acting, I think it's phenomenal, it's feels almost to real.
