Description
American Conquest: In the year 1492, travel to America as Christopher Columbus and ignite the fire that will fan 300 years of heated battles for land, riches, and freedom. In eight historical campaigns spanning 42 missions, you will take on the roles of great legends such as Francisco Pizarro and George Washington. Secure new technologies, unique weaponry, and improved fighting units, but also master the delicate world of diplomacy. Play with fire! Conquer America!
American Conquest Fight Back: Three centuries of war continue with frantic combat and desperate power struggles raging across the American continent. The Spanish press the attack in the Yucatan against the fierce Maya and Aztec nations. The Germans put all their efforts into finding the legendary El Dorado. The Pontiac Uprising ends in a terrifying bloodbath between Native Americans and the British. And the Russians will do anything to conquer Alaska at the cost of the Haida. Lead armies of thousands of troops to victory in large-scale battles in 10 missions.
Both games are a real treat for any strategy fan. But this is not a standard RTS, there is no simple build-send-and-forget here because even the biggest army can be defeated by a well coordinated, but relatively small force. Just like the old proverb says: “An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.”
Wage historical wars on an epic scale, with over 16.000 units on gigantic battlefields.
12 nations to choose from, each with its own unique set of units, buildings, technologies, and abilities.
Extensive battle mechanics that feature economical and political dependencies, unit formations, and tactical maneuvers.

It's like a better Cossacks.
I like about this game:
- You can produce thousands of Units and still control each one individually.
- AI not as dum as in Cossacks, can be very hard
- more than 15 Nations each with unique gameplay aand individual sprites for everything, looks Awesome.
- The amount of Possibilitys is amazing, Stationate Units in Buildings, create work chains., use peasants to make soldiers
- Good Sounds and music.
- You can set the producton always to unlimited by ctrg+klick or shift + klick, to make production chains so you don't always have to manually create more units.
negatives:
- path finding in crowded areas is buggy, sometimes peasons at the mill just stop working because they can't walk.
This was the second part of Cossacks really. I had these before GOG put these up. Anyway, there was apparently a third installment "Divided Nations" that I was never able to find. Good game but it takes a while to learn. I remember printing out the tech trees way back when for the different civs in the game. Well balanced game and well worth the price (I paid about thirty bucks for American Conquest and about twenty bucks for Fight Back way back when and it was worth that). You need to make good decisions on who you are or what to do. Certain civs (Natives) created more units but less technically advanced than other nations. But you needed to know who you were to get the most out of playing. Obviously the natives needed more units and you needed to base your strategy on that and such. Overall - A nice next generation of Cossacks with added playability and interesting additions in keeping with the times.
I loved this game years ago when I started to play the cossacks games. It is really cool with its massive feel with tons of units. The effects of a major battle can be simply amazing but to get to that point is hard to say the least.
Populations number into the thousands, something the AI can do quite well while your left spending half your gametime clicking the living life out of your mouse to produce peasants, then again to turn the peasants into soldiers.
If you don't understand the mechanics or can't compete with AI hordes that literally fill the minimap with color, you will quickly find yourself out of money to pay troops, or the all the essential coal to fire your muskets and cannons.
In short, it is a fun game (for a while) but has some serious flaws that will have you begging for mercy berfore the end.
I admit, it was fun, but the morale system is so messed up. Indians are fearless(I understand due to the spirit of the Warrior) but if you send 200 men up against 200 men, if you lose but one man, everyone runs...
It looks like I have an old version of this game on a CD and it does not work on Windows 8. I unsuccessfully searched for a solution but couldn't find it then I saw here it says its compatible with windows 8 so I wanted to try again and it worked!
I wanted to write this review for those who can't launch the game on their windows because of the well known black screen issue. Also, it works on windows 10.
Played this game as a kid and loved it so much. Very addictive and interesting. One of the best strategy games for sure. It has an amazing map editor too.
