Alpha Protocol

Alpha Protocol is an action/RPG hybrid game from Obsidian. The gameplay is a bit clunky and the story is not the best, but it's worth giving it a try. Like all Obsidian games there are bugs, but I didn't encounter any game-breaking ones. However, if you'd like to stealth your way through the game, beware that you probably won't often be successful. The combat can be frustrating and the computer hacking, lock breaking and circuit overridding can be extremely frustrating as time to complete the puzzles is short and the controls don't work too well on PC. You will get there in the end, but you will probably need multiple attempts. often setting off annoying alarms that alert all enemies to your presence! The computer hacking is probably the worst offender, as it's obviously designed to work with a controller with left and right sticks positioning the two codes. On PC, one code needs to be positioned with the mouse and the other with the keyboard. Getting the code into the right position with the mouse is super-hard, and all the while the clock is ticking...argh!

Someone should make a GoGfundme to refresh this game.

This game can't be played with a controller. I purchased because they said part of the update was controller support. Yes, you can move around, but you can't pick anything up - need to press space bar key. Can't even get past the start of the game. Don't buy if you're planning on playing on a ROG Ally or Lenovo Go.

I had played Alpha Protocol back then (2012/2013) when it was a supplement in a gaming magazine and played it again 1 year ago. Even then, 2 years after release, the game was hopelessly outdated. The graphics are sometimes very muddy. The combat system is very incorrect and unclean. The controls are okay, but can also be awkward at times. The story is unfortunately very predictable. I think there have been few games that I have enjoyed as little as this one. I found some of it more of an imposition to struggle through. The mini-games are annoying and some of the dialog is a joke. All in all, typical Obsidian. They had great ambitions, great ideas and creative approaches, but in the end they didn't bring it all together properly.

Quite a surprise to see this one re-appearing. This mixed rpg/shooter, well not really a shooter. more metal gear solid style approach that include stealth. Have the original dvd and case still so not going to rebuy though.
