Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000 features the Colonial Marine, Alien and Predator Campaigns and the frenetic single-player Skirmish mode from the original title: Alien Versus Predator Gold Edition, which was released to massive acclaim in 2000.
Alien Versus Predator Classic 2000 has been updated to run on modern PCs and laptops using DirectX 9.0c and includes support for Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.
The three most ferocious species in the universe in a bloodthirsty battle for the ultimate prize: survival. Take your pick: be a Colonial Marine, a Predator or an Alien. Fight through suspense-filled environments: from starships and space stations to colonial bases and eerie planetscapes. One wrong move turns you from hunter to prey.
The game supports Cross-play online multiplayer allowing GOG and Steam users to battle on one server.
Three campaigns: Colonial Marine, Alien and Predator
Includes all the levels from the original AvP Gold Edition plus the Millennium Expansion Pack
Skirmish mode against infinite Alien hordes
Bonus Episodes
Unique abilities, weapons and equipment for each species
Scale walls and elevator shafts as an Alien with frightening speed as you attack and devour your victims
Stalk your prey as the deadly Predator using wrist blades, shoulder cannons and stealth mode
Lock and load as a Colonial Marine using motion trackers, grenade launchers and flame-throwers to exterminate your foes
The multiplayer doesn't work which was stated at the top of reviews.
I remember oceans of joy fighting against one another in DM, playing different species, or even struggling in co-op on "Stranded" map, and it's unavailable here which is very, very sad.
Although I didn't stay longer than usual, this is still one of the best SC-FI games of all time and Rebellion did a good job with the crossover. Single Player levels are excellent and the game didn't lose all its charm. Besides I remember there were lot of problems with the Audio back those days but there are no technical issues here which is very nice.
PS:
GOG, I'm sincerely asking you... no... not asking. Begging! - Give us AvP 2! Such a gem and you can't get it these days.
Best and in my opinion only really good game in series made ever - all is so immersive, the soundtrack is gorgeous, the atmosphere in this game gave me countless hunting hours. And countless sweat hard hours with the marine. When you star hearing the creepy bleeping all over the place - believe me that gun always looks not big enough. This is one of the few games in this genre that really have appeal to me. It is... just GOOD!
I am so happy that this game came here to GOG. Thank you GOG!
Also I should mention something that in my opinion is misunderstanding - the old servers are gone (gamespy?) and for this reason the only way to play online is with GOG GALAXY which is mentioned just below the system requirements. Also as far as I understood - the Classic 2000 that is used as base for this distribution (the last version ever came out of the game), does not have LAN implemented by the developers in the beginning.
It is just the last version of the game that made it out. I guess if you use older version, you will have much more and different things to optimize and much older game to adapt to nowadays hardware.
So it uses only GOG's api to connect and that mean Galaxy. Which is perfectly fine in my opinion. This is NOT DRM as many people think and is miracle that we have multiplayer at all.
The game is very well adapted and optimized and works fine for me at least.
I was nine when this game originally released and I remember playing this along with thief 2. So i didn't hesitate to opt in when Gog was offering it up without asking for a dime. Having installed it through a clean wine prefix on my 08mbp, I can say this game runs very well playing with all three characters. Sure the difficulty and lack of multiple saves can be unforgiving, but whats the fun in breezing through a game as quick as you can? There is a lot of variety with the campaigns as well, be it impaling space marines heads with predators crossbow or blasting xenomorphs with the assault rifle. Now i can finally play the marine campaign without shi**ing my pants in fear.
Played this when it first came out, before even the Gold version was released.
Bought the Gold version when that came out (added the ability to save games).
Missed it as later versions of windows would not let you play.
Then Steam & now GOG have re-released it.
I STILL love this game, yes it`s a little dated, but runs fast & slick & still scares you!.
Why is this different to all the other games out there?
You never, quite, know what is going to happen next. The game re-spawns & changes every time you re-start a level. You may open a door fifty times & nothing happens, on the 51st a 7ft alien bites your head off in half a second, or you hear a scuttling noise & WHAM! a facehugger has you!.
Playing as an alien jumping 50ft running across walls and ceilings at about 30mph! to hang upside down over a door & SNAP!, it`s your turn to munch heads.
Not to mention the awesome Predator!, yet somehow all species seem to be perfectly balanced.
At this price it is nothing but a gift, seriously people, buy it if you have never tried it, or want to enjoy it all over again.
Awesomely oppressive! To those it might interest, there are simple hacks to easily bypass limited in-game saves via a command line parameter or assigning keys to quicksave and -load.
This game is interesting because it is not a mere shooter set in the Alien or Predator universe. It offers a gameplay experience that differs from other shooters. Even the most classical campaign as a marine is original. You have to be a sharp shooter, fast and precise, because aliens move incredibly swiftly. The very second you see them, they are on you. Weapons are powerful and localized damages encourage headshots providing that you have enough time to aim. You can literally tear aliens into pieces. The player is always on tenterhooks, progressing carefully, watching for an alien ambush. Each encounter is scary. The tension is kept at a climax thanks to an overdramatic music, dark levels and unpredictable enemies.
As for the other playable races, both are fun, it is very exciting to play non-human races and kill humans, it is as reversing the roles of hunter and prey. About the Alien, there are no such things as floor or roof, you have to think in 3D. I found it rather hard and bewildering. This leads me to the major downsides, the level design that can be a little mazy, with complex textures. I often found myself stuck, not knowing what to do or where to go, reading the messages again and again. The problem is that enemies keep spawning randomly. In many shooters, you often come to the point when you have cleaned the level and there is no threat left. In AvP, you never feel safe. If the game lasts too long, it becomes increasingly oppressive because you might run out of ammo. Highly worth the try!
