Masterpiece
I can say with full confidence that this is one of the best horror/thriller games of all time. It's unfair, wants you to take risks, and built to be against you at all times. It's a treat for horror fans who wants to feel uncomfortable and helpless. It's not one of those horror games where, when you master the game you become the threat. Alien: Isolation makes you feel like the prey at all times. My favorite part of the game was the Xenomorph's Nest. The atmosphere had me on my seat's edge. Didn't feel that threatened by a game, EVER. Amazing horror game! Would die because li'l Xeno decided to check the same room I was hiding in for a fifth time again!

Captures the feel of Alien perfectly
This is a stealth, suspense, horror game first and foremost, with some minor puzzles to solve for progression. The game places you in a space station around a gas giant, and the game mechanics force you to sneak around whether it's to avoid other inhabitants with weapons, killer androids or of course the Alien itself. The game is very well done graphically, with appropriate lighting that really captures the dark feelings of the original movie. It also has that same 'lo-fi' tech feel with the amusingly 70's tech terminals etc. I've carried out almost no combat, and instead have played stealth, but enjoyed the progress. One tip is that the save points can be sparse, so it's worth returning to a save point after completing some tasks to re-save, or you can find yourself having to redo a lot, and with the Alien it's very unpredictable were it will be at any given time. If you like horror, sci-fi and stealth games, this is definitely recommended. It's not as good as Prey, but a definite 4/5.

someone dared to ask: what if we made a game about this movie that was genuinely inspired and tightly designed

more fun to watch those classic movies
You probably know it will start with a simple mission but things go wrong and move to fubar. You will be in first person, figuring out what happened, surviving and trying to escape. The good: can get very intense, some beautiful graphics/lighting/effects/set pieces, atmosphere is pretty good (sound is excellent), decent storytelling and high production values. Has its issues though. Immersion: -minor bugs; items floating in the air, npc's getting stuck etc. -very restricted in what you can do, where you can go, what you can interact with. -character control; you can't jump, climb, open/close a door, etc. You just do what the game wants you to do all the time. ..and it was not always clear what the game wanted me to do. -it tells you to sneak but will just as easily alert enemies with scripted events or at random. -it gives you tools that don't work. examples: It is rarely a good idea to use most of the weapons, it gives you a hacking tool that will not open those locked doors you passed. same for the blow torch, they need upgrades, some of the items you can craft can be left uncrafted. It made parts of the game annoying. Also annoying is that enemies will know where you are. they will be patrolling your area all the time. sometimes very close and sometimes a bit more far, presenting your window to get on with the game. progression is built around things not working so you are always going back and forth to fix/get something, but you will constantly be interrupted to hide and wait. At first this can be intense but it becomes a routine. It would have been nice if you had opportunities to trick the enemy, put it on the wrong track, slow it down, etc. all you can do is distract it but that only lasts as long as the actual distraction. Last issue for me is that the alien was a bit underwhelming. It was fast and instant death but it mostly moves like a human in an alien suit and you will not catch it doing anything interesting. suggest: soma, deadspace
