Description
The year is 2191 and the galaxy stands on the brink of war. Only the Interplanetary Corps maintain an uneasy peace. The IPCC Miraculous was heading back for Federation HQ after six months on routine patrol around the Intex Network. Then came the orders to check out a remote Intergalactic Space Research Centre which had failed to transmit on any of the Federation wavebands. ISRC-4 was situated near the red-giant Gianor and was the last place anyone on the Miraculous wanted to go.
Alien Breed features a classic arcade shooter gameplay with hordes of aliens that are trying to kill you and a huge arsenal of weapons to defend yourself. In Alien Breed: Tower Assault levels are connected in multiple ways and there is no predefined path so you can freely chose where to go next, making each pass a unique experience. In addition, both titles can be played in cooperative mode adding further to the already impressive re-playability value of these games.

Many people remember Team 17 for Worms but Alien Breed is a true gem not to be forgotten.
One of the best arcade ever with half Aliens and half Gauntlet.
I cannot express how much I love this series of games, nor how much the residential tower in TA had an impact on me as a younger lad, few games were so very secure in what they did and how well they could do it than Alien Breed. Outstanding!
Some games age well: Sid Meier's Pirates is still great, Quake is truly a classic, and Cannon Fodder is a friggin' blast.
Some games absolutely do not age well: Super Mario 64's camera is the devil, Final Fantasy VII's gameplay is plug-boring,... and Alien Breed's crap hitboxes and frustrating design choices can eat me.
This is me during my time with Alien Breed:
"How did I not hit it? It's right in front of me, and this is an arcade shooter.
Alright, keys, keys, keys, where are the all-important-so-of-course-there-aren't-enough-of-them keys?
Ugh, the aliens respawn as soon as you walk away, so there isn't even the satisfaction of clearing a room. Gauntlet got that right, game; why didn't *you* 6 years later?
How did I not hit it?! It's right in front of me, and this is an arcade shooter!
Say, where's that terminal that this game insists is the godsend? It's got a map, and you can buy weapons and ammo and hopefully KEYS. I wish I knew what it looked like. I wish it stood out from all the gray. There isn't even a picture in the manual, and it's all-important!
These levels are all just gray-walled mazes, aren't they? Gray-walled mazes with infinitely spawning bullet-sponges. Awesome.
Okay, this is my last key, so I should be careful going down this narrow corridor not to open that door WHY DID THE DOOR OPEN ANYWAY AND WASTE MY LAST KEY, GAME?! WHY?! I DID NOT PRESS THE DOWN KEY; YOU'RE FULL OF S**T!!
HOW DID I NOT HIT IT??!! IT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, AND THIS IS AN ARCADE SHOOTER!!"
I hate this game. I don't often say that about games, but I'm saying it about this one.
Good for older PC gamers who are used to frustration; modern PC gamers and those who grew up on consoles should avoid it like the plague. Seriously. It's not even fun in a clunky way.
I have been looking for a playable version for MANY MANY MANY years, as the DOSbox version simply sucks, WinXP port features only 4 levels, and original Amiga version is too inconveniently hard to get properly emulated.
This game features ability to lock in the direction of shooting (sort of a Robotron-like, 8-way ability to shoot one way while moving), a feature that eluded me in on my A500 in my youth. VERY useful feature, as it actually makes it possible to win this game (my best is 6th level on A500 with 1-button mammoth joystick the size of a small masturbator :).
This game features one of the creepiest, alien-esquiest style of music ever made for a video-game - that one of NONE! Yes, there is no music, just a omnipresent low level hum of climatization systems. Add the prerequisite sound effects, for instance of elsewhere opening doors (never good), and this low-level hum perfectly conveys the sense of utter helplessness and despair in the open space, where nobody can hear your creams.
