Beauty in simplisity

in a world so very saturated with shooters it is quite lovely to have a game that doesn't follow the trends or the norms. Aer is a lovely story about a young girl who sets out on a pilgramige of both self discovery and to learn of her shattered sky land home. The plot is somewhat cliche however it has its own charm to it and playing through it i found myself rather attatched to the character. Gameplay wise i found this very relaxing and yet still interesting enough to keep me from nodding off to the beautiful soundtrack. The physics flows well between flight and gound based movement. The platforming is a little odd when you first start playing, this is because the movement is analog is nature (stopped, walking, running) and does not smoothly blend as you tilt the thumbstick. The game itself is quite short and i managed to complete my first run in a little over 2 hours. It also has little replay value in my opinion and if i were to suggest any improve ment it would be post story activities (exploration quests- "heard about this thing in a place, you should take a look" sorta thing) and repeatable activities such as arial obstical tracks. I digress however :P Overall i would recommend this to casual gamers who just need a quick escape but dont have the time to commit to bigger games like Fallout or Skyrim. Its short, its relaxing and its easy. The objectives are there to complete at your discression, if you even want to complete them.

interesting story and art.

an interesting story and nice gameplay. good for those who like indie games and to spend time just thinking about the idea after the game's ending.

Calming enjoyable mystique

Nice game for smaller kids. IMO it would help if it had some very rudimentary navigation system. One has to rely on what the characters say, which may be difficult if you don't remember it for any reason or... if you don't read yet

Journey without the journey.

This is a game that tries to ride the coat-tails of games Like Journey, but fails in major ways. 1. There is no linear story, instead you are thrown into a 'open' world with no direction and little to no story. 2. The ability to fly is given to you without effort, so it means nothing despite being a major game-play mechanic. 3. the music suggests fantastic tales, but the game-play fails to live-up to this atmosphere, rendering it null. Where Journey's sound track was designed around your playing, this music seems slapped onto the environment, rather than being depending upon the player. 4. The Graphics are terrible, even for this kind of indie-cell-shaded game. In Short, buy it on EXTREME sale, otherwise it's a waste of money.

Calming gameplay before heading to sleep

There are many nice things to say about this game. It's not very fun or interesting but very relaxing. The music is beautiful and the art style is great. I like the vague scraps of lore spread and hidden throughout the open world and encountered when exploring. Flying is a thrill. The bad part, and why I'd rate this game a 3,5/5, is that there are many small and one not so small problem. I think it would have needed a few more months in development. Sometimes the game is a bit glitchy, never anything serious, more like if you jump onto towards ledge and hit it at a certain angle, you'll glide and twitch and move unnaturally. It doesn't happen very often. Sometimes I feel like the overworld should be more believable. There's plenty of islands with waterfalls. As if the water would never run out. Many islands have animals who would die from lack of food or inbreeding. Controls can be very frustrating during platforming sections. Last one, and the worst: sometimes it feels like the game doesn't know what it's trying to be. Parts are great and really enjoyable, relaxing, no effort or challenge, just flying and exploring ruins and remote islands. Then suddenly - a dungeon. Oy vey. They can be horribly boring and even frustrating. You'r just in that kind of relaxing mood and suddenly the game switches to some kind of not that great platforming game with controls not made for precision jumps between moving platforms etc. Overall the dungeons are atmospheric and well designed. They are mysterious and often great to explore. But often the actual game play in them feels out of place and annoying. Most of the dungeons are very short though, as the game itself. For another game from the studio, I hope they would polish the title a bit more before release. Anyway I'd really recommend this game, just don't expect a flawless game.
