Oh wow, I'm actually kinda surprised you scrolled down this far...that's awesome! My name's Chris, and I'm so excited to tell you about my game! It’s a ‘90s-inspired adventure platformer about the totally normal adventures I went on as a chubby kid back in 1995 - traveling the world, learning useful abilities, and, naturally, getting kidnapped and turned into a balloon by cartoon villains. Thankfully, I escaped and learned to use my transformation as a kind of superpower. I got to learn all kinds of cool stuff - how to throw fireballs and lightning, how to bounce around like a basketball and rocket around the earth. It's a neat story...I think. I really hope you'll enjoy it - I had a lot of fun making it!

  • Uncover a sinister story in a quirky, cartoon-like universe.
  • Explore 9 locations around the world in any order you please, plus the Kingdom of Lost Balloons and more!
  • Build Chris from a weak kid into the ultimate hero by upgrading him with unique special moves and abilities that you can customize to your style.
  • Learn (or purchase) increasingly powerful spells and techniques.
  • Battle bizarre villains across the globe, including samurai cats, cyborg penguins and whiny vampires.
  • Float or fall through unique platforming challenges.
  • Two additional full game modes, including bonus content - a more difficult and humorous Mean Mode, and Developer Commentary.
  • A variety of unlockable content and secrets to discover, including an in-depth backstory.
  • Numerous difficulty settings, including "Ridiculously Easy" for players who prefer to never die, and "Hard for No Reason" for crazy people.
  • Snort out loud with a game chock-full of laughs.

Best game I've played in a long time.

This review is based on 216 hours on Steam followed by 18 hours on GOG. Adventures of Chris is an Adventure Platformer game inspired by the classic games from the 90s and while it draws a lot of inspiration from the classics, it manages to do its own thing with style. I love the ‘accidental hero’ concept, to have a ’nobody’ grow as a person and gain confidence (as well as powers) really adds to the feel-good experience. When it comes to difficulty levels, AoC is quick to deliver four different settings right off the bat, ranging from can't die (Ridiculously Easy) to take twice as much damage (Hard For No Reason) and it doesn't end there as most power-ups in the game are completely optional, giving the player a chance to finish the games with min% (and gain an achievement while doing so). For those who finish Story Mode and wish for a harder challenge there is Mean Mode with new dialogue, more enemies, spikes, gaps and harder boss fights. Hey, why not add to the challenge and play Mean Mode, Hard For No Reason, min%? Now in the end, what i love most about Adventures of Chris is how it brings back the fun of retro gaming, yes it can be frustrating at the harder settings but it feels so good to have a real modern retro game to just enjoy. And isn't that what gaming should be all about? To have fun.

Its ok

Its a decent platformer, though I would advice to wait for a big discount, as there are so many better games that I don't know if I should recommend this one. Whenever I see a game that was made for a very long time I wanna try it out, as I'm often experiencing great overall design. Well not this time. This game seems to be a remake of an older pixel art version released on Ouya in 2014. Its mostly reminiscent of typical 90s PC platformer - it reminds me the most of Claw - it has similar levels (but simpler), has multiple power ups to use, even aesthetics are similar (though worse here) but its less frustrating (infinite lives). Chris moves almost exactly the same as Claw I think, though he has unique twist - inflating which allows him to fly freely. This idea is mostly well explored, though I've found level design to be a bit lacking. I find the flying only and water levels to be one of the worst, most boring I've seen in a very long time. On the other hand stealthy levels are very rad. This is where the game shines the most - every level is completely different. The base game is pretty nice, its pace is great as it gradually introduces a new power ups. But endgame felt to me pretty strained, you often go through the same levels blasting through them quickly. Few end game bosses were just bad: taking too much time to kill, too hard to hit, but most of the time not able to kill Chris. Annoying, not challenging. Chris is OP with all abilities so at one point game temporarily takes away all his moves. Why?... One of the end game bosses have long arms that You have to hit - but its hit boxes are only at the end, so if You hit not end, you'll shoot through them. The story is bland but ok, the humor about character fatness is meh. There are many moments where characters are talking "oh its like in X movie/game from 93!", but to me this also felt quite cheap. The most 90s is the game itself.

Classic Platformer

This Platformer claims to be just like the kind you'd find in the '90s, and... it actually lives up to it! It starts out pretty rough, but once you get into it a little, you'll find that the mechanics are absolutely solid. You gain all kinds of new abilities and weapons along the way, and they're all used in interesting ways. What makes it all come together so well is the main mechanic, which is the ability to inflate like a balloon. You float straight upwards, and if you hit a ceiling, you can do some inverse platforming; not only is that fun (and easier to do than in some other games, like Battle of Olympus and Kiteretsu Daihyakka), it also makes a lot of the other abilities work in interesting ways. You can also leave a stage to regroup at almost any time, and dying only sets you back a single screen and anything you've collected on it. That's not to say that it doesn't get pretty challenging later on - the final stage SUCKS - but the vast majority of it feels very fair, even if you will need a little practice to get past some things. The toppings on this sundae are lovely, as well. The environments are interesting, imaginative, even whimsical, and the visuals all mesh very well. The story's about what you'd expect, but the jokes usually land. The music was a pretty big surprise, too; it ranges from emotional to whimsical to even pulse-pounding in all the right moments. If you like classic 2D Platformers, I'd highly recommend giving this a shot.

Great story based action platformer!

My Video Review is available here: https://youtu.be/0Wk8GyEYNMM Is Adventures of Chris the right game to be played by fellow Gaming Fathers and their families? There are many things that I like about the game - inventive story, sense of humor, system of skills and upgrades, variability of environment, good level design, optional level of difficulty, responsive controls and nice graphics. There are also some things that I dislike - frustrating boss battles along with the inability to shoot vertically, lack of game modes - there is just a story, absence of dubbing and also absence of local multiplayer that would make the game more suitable for family playing. Pros: - story - sense of humor - skills and upgrade system - game variability - level design - optional level of difficulty - controls - graphics Cons: - some boss battles - inability to shoot vertically - lack of game modes - absence of dubbing - no local multiplayer In general, I have really enjoyed playing Adventures of Chris and I would not hesitate to give it an even higher score if there were local multiplayer and dubbed characters. Like this I am giving it Thumbs Up and VideoGaming Father’s Index 8 out of 10 - recommended!

Again Unity and of course it's broken ..

... start of Linux version ... At first the character runs horizontally through the terrain, then runs through the right most area border and surprisingly warps back and tells you to run home. You can then run inside that area forever finding numerous programming errors like you would in a pre-alpha. Standing on highest terrain makes the background appear, jumping off and it vanishes. To make it short, the game is a SCAM.
