Description
In the ruins of the fallen Adal Empire, you awaken with a mysterious mask on your face, and faint recollections of an esoteric ceremony. Freeing you from hunger, thirst, and even death, the mask is the creation of the Guides, the rulers of these lands, who have placed you here to determine whether you are worthy of becoming part of the elite corps of Absolvers. As you wander these forsaken lands, encountering other Prospects like you, you will learn new combat styles, acquire weapons, gear and armor, and build a team of warriors with whom to fight side by side in Arenas of combat.

Fluid Real-Time Combat: Position yourself in one of four tactical stances during real-time battles and execute devastating attacks, dodges, and parries. Movement becomes your weapon as you engage in solo duels or intense three-on-three melees battles.

Customizable Style and Flow: Players will define their character’s playstyle by picking a combat style, a weapon of choice, and arranging attacks in their Combat Deck to design their unique and personal attack flow.

Online Multiplayer Action and Narrative: Prospects and Absolvers will seamlessly encounter others in the world, generating unique stories that emerge through player interaction and choices. These moments are filled with tension as intentions to battle or befriend are never clear: trust is always a leap of faith. Encounters will have lasting consequences and transform into meaningful relationships as you make friends or enemies and find mentors or disciples.

Offline Single-Player Experience Available: Journey on an adventure that will take you from Prospect to Absolver in an exciting campaign, available both online and offline. The single-player mode pits you, and you alone, against lost Prospects and legendary warriors in the ruins of the Adal empire - complete with all content, free of interactions and encounters with other players.

PvP and PvE: Explore a rich and dynamic world including dedicated PvP battle arenas where champions will receive spoils of victory and progress in the ranks of the Absolvers, and PvE areas in which players cooperatively battle to retrieve rare loot and equipment from the ruins of Adal.

ABSOLVER CONTENT UPDATES
The development team at Sloclap is dedicated to improving and expanding Absolver based on community feedback once the game is live. In the coming weeks and months, Prospects can expect regular updates to the game to fix any issues that appear, as well as both minor and major content updates. These updates already include 3v3 Game Mode and a Spectator Mode soon after launch, but many more updates can be expected, from new combat styles and moves to new powers and equipment.

Please note:
Absolver features public crossplay matches which you can play with your friends regardless where the game was purchased (PC only).
Multiplayer Notice: Please note that GOG GALAXY is required to access Multiplayer. Some fighting techniques and boss fight rematches must be one-time unlocked in online mode. Once unlocked, they carry over to the single player game."

Absolver, a solid foundation.

If you're on the fence about absolver and don't know whether it's for you let me start by highlighting its biggest weaknesses and if they don't discourage you then I'll tell you why you should buy it. It's largest weakness is game length / amount of content. The game can be 'finished' quite quickly it took me around 6 hours. Online play is plagued with lag issues. The game has no central story, the narrative is rather open ended like dark souls with few cut scenes and dialogue and environmental story cues. Those are all valid reasons to not buy the game. So if you're on the fence and any of those are going to keep you away then no worries, more power to you thank you for reading. However, if you're like me and don't buy games expecting every single one to be perfect and rather are out there looking for the truely unique and innovative games then you can't go past Absolver. The first hour of Absolver when you're still trying to learn the mechanics of the combat, what the stats mean and what you're purpose is were not particularly noteworthy it was all stuff I had seen before in games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne and even to an extent For Honour. The learning curve of this game is rather complex. Sure you might quickly learn how to attack, block, dodge and all the usual stuff but the real magic of Absolver is in its combat deck system. If you've ever played a fighting game like street fighter, tekken, mortal kombat and the like then you've likely had the experience of pausing the game midfight, looking at the combat list and then going back into the game trying to pull off the combo you've just memorised. Well Absolver answers the question, what would it be like if instead of memorising the comboes in that pause menu I could just create them instead. Throughtout the game you will earn a variety of different attacks like uppercuts, roundhouse kicks, leg sweeps. You can learn these moves a variety of way through actually fighting other players and npc enemies. Once you've learned them, you can go into the matrix like meditation state where you can practice your moves and modify your 'combat deck' which is the blank slate where you fill in different attacks and create your comboes. There's a ridiculous amount of customisation to the point where everyone that plays will form their own unique fighting style. Do you favour heavy hitting slow attacks, would you rather hit faster than your opponent or maybe you like to mix it up. There is so much choice and this system alone makes Absolver an incredibly fun game. It has a lot of layers of complexity, adds replayability to the game and even has some narrative interwined elements which are really cool and worth experiencing for yourself. If that all sounded like a blast but you want to know what else there is to Absolver then keep reading. The multiplayer aspec, while not for everyone, builds on the system experienced in games like dark souls and destiny where players will just drop in and out of the zone you are exploring. It's so seamless I often didn't notice until they were right in front of me. You can fight them, pair up with them or just ignore them and go your separate ways. The environments are beautiful, the artists did an amazing job giving Absolver a unique style and there's lots of story in the environments themselves. The sound never distracts only augments the experience. There's much to love about Absolver and I can't wait to see how this game grows with future updates. The developers have said that they plan to support the game after launch so it will be an interesting journey and the openendedness of the ending sets this game up suitably for such additions.

Super engaging fun!

The best part about this game is the combat that makes you want to play more and more. The social stuff like teaming up or fighting others on your way is always fun. Im not close with fighting games and stuff but im still loving the hell out of PvP. Worth it!

Amazing Fluid, well polished.

This game is great, I've been waiting for something along the lines of Avatar and now we have it. They did a great job on the artwork, and made the game extremely fun and fast paced. Most dev's stay in early access too long, luckily this team has done everything great so far. They stayed in beta for a short time, they made sure it was polished and they made it GOG-Steam compatible, round of applause.

Violates dojo rules, only a prototype

Like many others before me, I could write about all the shortcomings and general bullshit. I could also write about all the bugs and mistakes only novice gamedevelopers make, or about how some features are nigh unplayable if you are using kb + mouse. Instead I am trying to find something good in this game. It has an interesting premise, and if that was executed well (which it is by absolutely no means, they're selling their prototype) it could make for a great game, if they iterated on/reworked most of their mechanics. But simply put, for what it is trying to do, it violates dojo rules. And the player is the target of these violations. On some less mentioned sidenotes: - it suffers from a gamified "stamina" system, which makes you care more about your stamina-bar, than anything else on screen. - based on my calculations (as a gamedeveloper myself, I've dissected the mechanics) the best armor is no armor - based on my calculations this game is horribly unbalanced, and half of the progression makes you less powerful
