A fun hike!
This game is absolutely fantastic! I spent on evening playing this game. The controls are super smooth. The graphics are beautiful; the kind of remind me of GameBoy Advance graphics but with a fully 3D camera. I got it for free on Epic Games and played it because of the good reviews, and boy was I satisfied afterwards!

GBA-style Collect-A-Thon
"A Short Hike" is a small scale 3D open world collect-a-thon with graphics intentionally reminiscent of the Gameboy Advance. Fun simple gameplay and very easy, suitable for small children and even game journalists to play. The soundtrack is also quite nice. It reminded me of Michael Giacchino's score for Pixar's Up. You'll finish the main game in about an hour I'd estimate, although 100% completionists will have many more things left to do. That's the good news. The bad news is that A Short Hike has a problem which the vast majority of 3D third person collect-a-thons have, which is that the camera doesn't always show an angle conducive to the action. This game handles that problem better than most I've seen but the issue is still present and noticable. Still, you can't fault a little indie game like this for failing to solve a problem that has plagued its entire genre for a quarter century.

I got everything o could out of it.
This is a little free roaming 3D platforming where the main objective is to reach the top of the mountain to recieve a call, something you can acomplish in an hour or so, i've seen world records around 3 minutes. But there is still a full island of diferent activities to enjoy all of them pretty chill: fish, dig, race, swim, boat, fly and more. There are many different side quests that uses and improves this activities, but for my the proof that all of this is fun and well implemented is the fact that i didn't have the need or desire to look up any of this online, it all came to be naturally as i played the game. After exactly 7 hours i have finally finished all the actvities, so i think i'll put the game down for a while and start it over in the future when i feel like it. My only two complains in this game that easely became one of my favorites are this: the camera, and a lack of map. The camera is semi-fixed, and many times you will wish you were able to move it to a better position; the camera also messes with you a bit when entering certain areas from certain positions. In the case of the map, i really wish there was one to better know where it is that you want to go. I get that maybe the developer didn't want it in for whatever reason, but i think that as an unlockable it would be nice. The island is not big enough not to get lost, but it would still be a QOL improvement. This game is great, don't doubt it, that's why there are so many reviews and most of them are five stars. If you happen to read this be sure that this game is worth your time.
