Follow the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, in a heartrending journey through the darkest hours of history. Hunted by Inquisition soldiers and surrounded by unstoppable swarms of rats, Amicia and Hugo will come to know and trust each other. As they struggle to survive against overwhelming odds, they will fight to find purpose in this brutal, unforgiving world.
1349. The plague ravages the Kingdom of France. Amicia and her younger brother Hugo are pursued by the Inquisition through villages devastated by the disease. On their way, they will have to join forces with other children, and evade swarms of rats using fire and light. Aided only by the link that binds their fates together, they will face untold horrors in their struggle to survive.
As their adventure begins… the time of innocence ends.
This is one of the best games I have played in a long time. Its cinematic effect is done well and it makes you feel as if you aare there. The characters are well done and the voice acting is great. You feel for these characters.
I look forward to another one of these. I fully recomend this and I feel its a must play game.
Hated escort quests since the early days of mmorpgs and then someone makes a full game of it and... I really really liked it. Graphically game is beautifull. Didn't encounter anykind of bugs. Little lag here and there, but no amount to get annoying. Only annoyance was the little brother. Sometimes wanted to throw rock at him. Guess little brothers and sisters are annoying little brats in real life too tho.
loved the story, the game has really good mechanics considering it's not a traditional action game. character development is really good, nice puzzles, it's not overwhelmed by a ton of collectibles. graphics, sound effects and music are really good.
THE GOOD: A heartwarming story immersed in a quite grim world, beautifully presented with simple but effective enviromental puzzles. While graphically it's gorgeous, is the sound of this game what have impressed me the most: I've choosen French language (because immersion) for my first playthrough (19 hours) and I'm very impressed with the French voice actors team. Dialogs feel so organic that I could believe the characters are performing in real time according to my actions and even some enemies have nice details like asking for merci when I'm about to... dispatch them. I also like the way instrumental music is used as a powerful tool to rise tension while you are facing swarms of ravenous rats and I love little details like the agitated breathing of Amicia when she is hidding and some enemy soldier gets too close.
THE BAD: This is me being extra picky:
1. It makes no difference if you try to sneak alone or if you bring your full party with you.
2. You can sneak behind a soldier with a lightning torch in hand totally giving away your position and you won't be detected.
Things improve a lot in later chapters where enemies come in bigger packs, then you will be thankful for these exploits.
THE UGLY: As of june 2020, the game still has a bug in Chapter 6 where Milie opens a chest for you and you get stucked inside a tent. You will need to try to walk backwards, strafe, stand up and crouch, restart the game, Alt+tab out and back... or any mix of the above to escape. It is a real shame since it is the only technical problem I have found in an otherwise flawless game.
If you are playing at 3440 x 1440 you will see the image "boxed" (black bars each side of the screen). I'm guessing this wont bother many people but its always better to know.
Since the beginning I fell in love with characters and story. Hopefully we'll see more of these short and sweet linear storytelling games that leaves you with a wonderful experience to remember for the rest of your life.
This game's difficulty lies not in the game's intricacy, but in total disorientation, i.e. you not knowing what to do next and figuring out over and over listening to the same dialogue over and over, the game wants you to restart the checkpoint, it WANTS you to die so that you wouldn't feel as though the game is too short. That's my biggest criticism, that is if it truly was done on purpose.
The story is a fantasy with elements of history, it probably does not depict any real chapters in history, rather it is inspired by them, black plague, alchemy, inquisition etc. On the bright side it's interesting and engaging.
It is pleasantly immersive but the facial animations are not convincing by today's standards and all type of enemies/soldiers are clones, and as I mentioned the forced difficulty takes away the chunk of immersion.
