Boring & repetetive disappointment

First of all I need to admit that i only played around 2-3 hours of game. But those couple of hours gave me a good glimpse on this game i think. Main problem is that it is just boring. You build buildings to make units faster. Those units die quick, so you better tap those keyboard button shourcuts fast. Rence and repeat, untill you kill all enemy units. It's hard to implement any strategy as your units are braindead when you command them. When you click 'A' (attack) behind enemy lines, they will scatter and just do what they want, dying in the process of course. As only one building of same kind can produce, there is no way to split your base, so no strategy here either. Story is non-existent, there is few sentences in mission select screen but that's all. As there where no good AAA RTS release for like a decade (maybe except CoH and Homeworld remake) it's sad that smaller devs are only making those useless cookie-clikers. Overall, it's boring, dummed down Warcraft 2, set in mobile games mindset of simple repetative chore.

Excellent RTS with great classic vibe!

This game is great fun! Like other titles in the series, it's like a cross between 1980's 8bit games and 1990's 32bit RTS classics with a Warcraft vibe, without being a blatant clone! It's very well done, plays smooth and easy and has a good pace. Solid gameplay mechanics. Very much worth the price of admission! Buy with confidence!

Modern Low Budget Take On Warcraft 1 & 2

Perhaps the closest thing we'll get to the original warcraft games in 3D, before they rpg-ed the heck out of it. It is fun and reminiscent of the first warcraft games in terms of the kind of strategy that works, at least for the campaign. It felt like the orcs were more fun to play than the humans though. The art is cute. The destructible environments are a nice touch. The tactics are not ultra-deep, because of the fast-paced battles combined with the fact that the units are pretty dumb, especially by 2024 standards, though perhaps an rts mistro could work magic there. The resource gatherers will auto-pick new mines once the current one is depleted and they often won't pick the ones that are in well protected territory. The combat units don't all move at the same speed and they won't wait for their comrades to catch up. This means, for example that the assassins will outrun the archers covering the air and the healers healing them and get themselves killed. In combat, the units will also tend to disperse in smaller clumps and get themselves picked off more easily (for example, a cyclop might take a left to attack some towers without the rest of the army or healers and die). Also, the units have a bad case of ocd and once they hone on something to attack, they will attack that thing until it is destroyed or they are dead. For example, if they were attacking a farm when enemy reinforcements arrive, they will keep attacking that farm while the reinforcements attack them. Also, I found it easy to lose track of the mouse in the heat of the action which was quite frustrating and something I did not experience in Warcraft. The story is hollow, the winning screen after battle is just cringe-worthy (probably as a joke) and the end of the human campaign is just weird (seriously?!). It also takes too long to unlock all your units in the campaign. Despite those caveats, it can be fun for a couple of days. Just don't expect to be playing it to death like you did Warcraft.

Simple, fun - achievements often bugged

Good, simple, fun RTS, much like the other 8-bit games in the series. My main issue is that achievements often are bugged and do not register. Retrying the achievement often doesn't work (such as "complete mission X") and the only known solution is to nuke your game save data and try again; you start back at square one: mission 1, no unlocks; and you have to hope that the achievement registers the next time you attempt them. In my case, I don't have the "complete mission 6" achievement for either campaign. Many people report not being able to get other achievements also. Nuking my save data did not work (specifically w.r.t. "complete mission 6") and I won't be attempting any further, given that: I'm nuking all my unlocks each time, and there are a bunch of achievements for: "complete all missions (/ in hard mode)", "get all X achievements" and I cannot trust that there won't be any one achievement that didn't unlock on a particular nuked-save-data run, meaning I'm likely not to get the grouped achievement, after spending many hours trying to get it. IIRC, I didn't have any issues with "8-bit Invaders" which might be a good alternative.
