outstanding

I usually don't play interactive story games like this, but I really like the setting. When I was a child I watched the movie, both of the shows and the other movie, played the awful point and click adventure and my dad read me the book before I got to sleep. Thus I HAD to try this and, oh boy, it does nail EVERYTHING. The characters, the appeal of the story, the retro futuristic Jules Verne tech, the detailed descriptions of the environments, the sense of adventure - it really feels like reading the book, but actually partaking in the story. At times this is even better than the book, definitely the best adaptation of it for sure. It expands upon the original story by a massive amount of new little stories within and just oozes atmosphere. I really love this game. Oh and there's SO much to do and experience, it's insane. I played 4 rounds so far, "won" two of them and none felt like the other. It's really great. I love it. This definitely would benefit hugely from a voice acting update or something, but maybe that's too much to ask for a niché title like this.

A Hidden Gem

An extremely well written game. 80 days is a game with much love poured into it, I had a hard time trying to stop playing, because I felt so immersed. It can be a bit repetitive when you've played it for a long time, but I absolutely adore this hidden gem of a game. If You like any of Jules Vernes works or just good story driven games, You should buy 80 days.

Highly Replayable!

As a book nerd I was familiar with Jules Verne's novel "Around the World in 80 Days", but hesitant about the game. The premise in itself is simple. Your master has made a bet and now you must help him keep it. Decisions on which path to take can affect health and the information you can find about potential travel paths. So far, on the two attempts I have made, I managed to beat the time of 80 days. There are still so many different choices to make that I can't wait to go back and replay it again. Even losing this game would be interesting if only what it means for the paths you will have traveled. Sometimes winning the game is overrated.

80 Days? Only took me about 5 hours!

I'd seen this game, based on Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne, for a while on this site, and finally went for it when it was half off during the recent Fall Sale. The game doesn't have CGI graphics or an orchestral score, but I'd posit that they're not needed here. The charm of 80 Days lies in its story, and the relationship between the two main characters. The choices are all yours to make: what cities to visit, how to travel, what to buy and sell to manage your money on your journey, how to interact with the hundreds of people you meet on your journey, and how to best manage your time. If you're a fan of choose-your-own-adventure books, geography, or text-based PC games, this might just be your cup of darjeeling.

A true adventure

This is a true adventure game. You - as a loyal valet - are dragged into a foolhardy wager that your master made, and in the process you will have to travel the world and make sure your master (and yourself) makes it through in one piece within the 80 day limit. You will meet people and get dragged into the strangest situations: some comical, some sombre. You will win some, you will lose some, you will laugh, you will make a fool of yourself. It's all part of the job :) The game is, at its core, a "choose-your-own-adventure" type game with an incredibly simple interface and a simple goal: you have 80 days to go around the world. Achieving this goal is not hard, especially after you understand how the game works, but that isn't really the "point". The true joy is in exploration and just trying different things. After a few play-throughs you will start challenging yourself "what if I go via south america this time?" or "what if I just don't use trains at all?". You will find an assortment of strange and amusing situations. The writing is excellent and the setting is just so great for this: it is steampunk, in an age where everyone is just experimenting with new technology and wacky concepts in transportation. The game is very low pressure and casual. Even if you miss the deadline, you can just continue the trip as normal until you finish. I think it is possible to die, but in like 20 play-throughs I've only ever come REAL close once (and only because I messed up badly). Even running out of money isn't a huge deal (it will delay you a lot, but it isn't game over). You can just leave your trip and come back - the game autosaves. But even when things look bleak, you can still sometimes snatch victory from defeat. The only real downside is that you will eventually start seeing repeated dialogue (a limitation of the medium, of course: since it is all text, eventually you will get repetition). But that is a small issue. I highly recommend this game.
