Description

1971 Project Helios is a turn-based strategy game which combines modern warfare military tactics and close combat. Firearms and vehicles are scarce, conflicts and hostilities have no end, and the terrible freezing cold annihilates friends and foes in its path.

Eight characters have to join forces for a common cause: find an important scientist kidnapped by a massive stratocracy. Along their way they will have to avoid raider attacks, investigate military headquarters, and infiltrate into the territory of a dangerous anti-technological religious sect.

  • Tactical Combat. Fight against three different factions, each one with its unique units, strategy and advantages. Soldiers, snipers, slippery bandits, knights immune to cold… Study your enemies, plan out every move and adapt to all confrontations!
  • Exploration. Travel through various locations, from military enclaves to medieval dungeons. There you can search for fulgor, new equipment for your characters, and pieces of information of the world you are in and the factions you face.
  • Skill Trees. As you find equipment compatible with each character, you can unlock and upgrade new skills, and combine them to make the perfect builds for your strategy.
  • Resource Management. Use all the fulgor you can find to defreeze your HP, decrease the cooldowns, and reanimate your fallen units.

The campaign sets in a frozen world, in which eight people – each one with its own problems and interests – join in a sort of temporary alliance, to find one particular person: Dr Margaret Blythe. On the trail of her whereabouts, they will travel and fight shoulder to shoulder, and they inevitably get to know the others. Depending on some strategic and personal decisions, you will guide this characters right to one of three possible endings.

Interesting But...

I hate the game and like it all at the same time, fustrating as the enemy always seems to focus the lead person and kill her and then restart combat and try again, there is even achievements for losing and retrying the mission. I like how 1 of my people who has 3 armor and is easily gun down in 2 hits from a pistol, where the enemy has 3 armor and takes 4 hits to take them down unless you can get into melee range then it's less, also the game has this annoying lag during each soldiers turn that kind of hangs for a few seconds. You will probably be repeating rooms fairly often as the enemy seems to care less about the others in the party and more on the leader which is annoying and even in full cover which is few and far between the enemy still seems to get a decent hit on the leader, sometimes they will focus other party members if you stand them right in front of them.

Not as fun as I'd hoped

I like the art style. As for the story, I don't know much about it. I've only played the game for three hours and will not be going back to finish it. Many games like this have a lot of RNG, this is totally normal for the genre. When your party encounters enemies the game takes control and situates each player, including your own party, in a seemingly pre-determined way. Immediately that puts me off. On one occasion, after repeating the same scenario eight times in a row, there was a slightly different starting position for one of my characters. Yes, I did have to redo a scenario eight times before I succeeded. This isn't my first time playing a game like this. I've played a few fairly difficult titles and I have never had to restart so many times for a single scenario. The situations, after the first couple of scenarios, are set up in such a way that getting through them is mostly reliant on luck with the RNG and not player skill. This makes it feel like an artificial difficulty. There is also a very different point-spending system for actions. Which is fine. Even though I didn't like it, I did adapt. Basically each action has a limited number of uses per turn, regardless of how many points you have to spend. I had no serious problems with it. If the fights were designed better I would have continued on to finish the game. Personally, I did not have fun with this game. I really wanted to love it.

Really clunky xcom copy

You cannot click on portraits to switch characters, only tab works. You cannot confirm shoot action by space like game says, you have to click. However you confirm overwatch with space. Turns do not auto end. Camera only has 90 degrees rotations which in this particular game is annoying because of bad camera angles all the time. Characters movement and overall battle speed are slow. When you enter battle characters go into predetermined positions so you cannot influence where somebody goes. Music has its good moments. You can move or enter overwatch after shooting which is really nice. You do not have to reload ammo in guns – it is infinite. Overall clunkiness of game made me get rif od it in 3rd mission when new equally weak characters are introduced. This game was not fun for me. It was struggling and repeating room by room to guess correct combination of moves which would give you win. Go back to XCOM and have real fun dear players.

A very good adquisition for this days

After playing in others plataforms i decided to play it again on pc, what I can say about it is that the plot is very good, the music is FIRE, the mechanics are everything that you wish in a strategy game, and also the levels are unique between each others. I really recommend it
