this is gonna be a tough one to preserve.
it's extremely niche, and it's a licensed game, which, doesnt bode well for preservation.
however, i'll keep it straight and simple: it's silent hill for kids.
boy when i got this game...
my dad and i used to go to flea markets all the time to browse old games, used games, and pirated games, which were unfortunately the only way we could afford games back then.
i did have original copies of some games, however those were reserved for special ones, albeit Star Wars and Jurassic Park games in my case... and only SOME.
anyways, one day, we were browsing and i came across one game i wanted, and he came across one game he wanted, as we almost always did it.
we got them, came back home, and i was introduced to both Need For Speed Underground 2 and The Haunted Mansion THE SAME NIGHT.
WHAT A NIGHT.
this game, it has a beautiful, intoxicating atmosphere, that recreated the original mansion in all of its glory.
the gameplay trusts you as a seasoned player and allows you to explore an open ended level with metroidvania-style levels, puzzles, and sometimes dungeons.
it is fast paced in its combat, arcade, with constant lock-on third person shooting with a ghost lamp, while being a third person adventure game when exploring.
now, even as an adult, some levels and enemies, are straight up NIGHTMARE FUEL, the key gathering, and level exploration is exciting, and i reckon the puzzles are doable enough for kids, and fun little detours for adults.
it has references to the ride, and is in itself a prequel to the Eddie Murphy movie (which is a cult classic AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL)
the sound design is crisp, smooth, and not too kiddy, with the menus and the beeps actually reminding me a lot to Silent Hill, and overall i think it's a damn overlooked gem of its generation.
like all games, i dream this one too will be preserved for others to play.
in a perfect world, we wouldn't even have to fight for it...
one day, i hope...
