While this game has a remake, which IS available on GOG.com, the remake suffers from a number of issues:
- worse cutscenes (less animation frames), some cutscenes are even wrong (animation errors), or missing entirely
- the visuals are broken, including loss of visual fidelity (particle effects missing)
- The gameplay lost its intricacies, which made the original game worth replaying though. This includes postgame dungeons
- One story relevant dungeon is straight up gone, including the superboss (Marie) is unavailable
- the game's visuals do not really represent the original pink flower motif, unlike the original
- The UI lost its visual flair as well, while in the original it breathed the "virtual world" setting, with the "noise" filter. Including the effect on the Character Episodes
- While the remake has added new scenarios, the writing makes it clear it was written by someone else, and they clash with the writing of the original, particularly that the characters were a bit more subtle.
- The added dungeons clash with the game's pacing, and the lines were not even rerecorded, meaning there are now numerous awkwarness and plot holes.
While the original TCE did not have a PC port, it was built on the same engine as Sword Art Online (Re:) Hollow Fragment, which is available on PC. Hence why I would love to see this game preserved, because the remake should not be the only one available, especially in its poor technical state.
The original TCE struggled with performance on the PSVita hardware and a PC port would help with that limitation and make this game accessible to the general public. Especially since the game's English version was already delisted and it was digital only.
