Having played Below Zero directly after the original game gave me tons of respect for the developers. This is not a quick additional cash grab on one of the most amazing games ever. The authors have obviously asked themselves, "Now that the player knows what actually happened on 4546B, how can we make them invested in the story?" And they do their utmost.
This time you play for a girl investigating what happened to her sister who died at a research station on 4546B some years after the events from Subnautica. It takes place in the arctic parts of the planet, bringing completely new biomes. Also, this time, you spend a bit more time on solid land.
But of course, the most mysterious questions surround the aliens who had quarantined the planet back then. Can we learn more about them? Oh yes, we can! Actually, soon after the game's start, something happens, making the protagonist learn a lot about the aliens. More than she ever wanted, actually. But it's in her best interest to keep on learning.
Just like the original game, Below Zero has an immersive world I didn't really want to leave, a wonderful story, and a goosebumpy conclusion.
DRM-free release and inclusion into the GOG Preservation Program? Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty please!!!
