Story:Robot Alchemic Driver is a Big Robot/Monster fight in a modern city with a twist. There is a story and training mode and a 2 player vs. mode. In a nut shell, alien's attack the last city on earth. The big robot comes up, and here is where the twist come in, you have to control the robot from the perspective of the "hero" (three to choose from) and you can switch between the robot/hero mode. This forces you to make sure you have a strategic position to move the hero around in the city to see the battle without getting too close. As the game goes on you have the option to update/customize the mech(s) to improve them. You can end up destroying whole building/terrain as you battle the alien monster.Show more

I only just discovered this game after it kind of became a meme online. And there's NOTHING else like it. Forget Armored Core or Metal Wolf Chaos, this is a HEFTY mecha game with a super unique gimmick. And the hilarious localization is just the cherry on top. I've only played it in an emulator, but it'd 100% be a day one purchase if I could
Robot Alchemic Drive is one of my absolute favorite PS2 games. Its unique gameplay and terrible, albeit endearing voice cast make it an interesting and fun addition to any collection. I would LOVE to see this land on GOG.
*Robot Alchemic Drive* is so good because it does things no other mech game really tries. You don’t control the robot directly—you control a person who’s remotely piloting it, and each limb has its own button. It makes the robots feel massive, clunky, and real. Watching your giant mech stomp through a city while you try to steer it like a clumsy god is just awesome. Add in full city destruction and cheesy anime vibes, and it’s a wild, unforgettable experience.

This game made a very strong impression on me in a very good way. I believe everyone should be able to experience it, and I think GOG would be a great platform for that. I hope more people notice this game, there's nothing quite like it!

A very good friend of mine showed me this game when he got it for PS2, and WOW, what a hilariously bad dub, but a novel concept worth revisiting! It qualifies for "so bad it's good" status in my book, and I'd love to see it reach the GOG audience!

Truly has movement mechanics unlike any other mech game.. the voice acting and localization are so good and really add to it. Feels like an old english dub of a monster-movie where the translators had No Idea what was going on. The biggest challenge is learning how to pilot the mech, but it's so fun and uniquely done! Really can't think of another game that does it like this.

This is one of the most clever games I've ever played. I remember booting it up on my PS2 and being blown away with the concepts here. I was all in on big monster stuff at that point, having not long before played Shadow of the Colossus, and was just looking for anything else to show me interesting mechanics and storytelling. While I don't remember much about this game's story I do remember the mechanics and the gameplay. It was clunky, it was experimental, but for what the game was about, it felt right. This game feels like it never truly found its audience, seeing as how the studio that made it was closed not long after its release. However, I think games like this should be preserved to show new game designers what can be accomplished, and some old ideas that could be improved upon and made brand new. Honestly feel like games like this deserve their own category, Old Games That Did Something Different.

FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires.
