What would happen if the creators of Ratchet and Clank designed a game made for adults? You would get Resistance FOM. This is one of those few games that I got into the habit of playing annually. Something about the combination of the setting and gameplay. Some of my all-time favorite weapons are from this game. While story and character development take a backseat, and the environments/game world are fairly linear and straightforward, as was the case with most games of its era, the variety of creative and unique weapons, each with secondary/alt fire modes, keep things interesting - watching enemies get impaled by spike grenades, activating slow/hyper focus mode to shoot the tubes off of their life support apparatuses, shooting through walls, shooting around walls. And while most of the game is more gritty than scarry there are a few terrifying sequences when you’re tasked with navigating a hive with many hungry creepy crawlies lying in wait to burst from their egg sacks to eat your face. I love this game dearly and wish that I could play it again without the need for a playstation.
