This game was a hidden gem and there frankly isn't anything quite like it. Most other games can be played somewhere else, or have similar vibes in other titles, but Warship Gunner 2 was only ever released on one console over 20 years ago and there's nothing quite like it that's been released since. The wild ship designs you could come up with, the screens full of enemies, blasting mile-long battleships with a massive railgun, this game is truly unique and with its limited release, it truly does deserve to be available through GOG.
I spent way too much time in the ship builder as a kid and just running some of my stupid creations through the early missions. To this day, nothing else has managed to capture the same magic combination of engaging arcade-y combat and excellent ship design. Add in the insanity of some late-tech-tree weapons, and you have one of the best games I've ever played. That it has never been available on PC is truly a shame and I would love to dive back in.
Never released in EU which is a shame. Would be fantastic for it to reach a wider audience! I played the first one and Commander and really wanted more. Did get onto Waves of Steel and while good, didn't capture Naval Ops magic. Would love to try this game out for the first time.
just the ship builder mode alone puts most of the modern games to shame and is a lot more fun than world of warships you don't need to pay money to unlock the ships just play the game lol
So this is a playstatioin 2 game not sure how it could get on GOG BUT - holy ow did i invest 1000 hours into this game. unlocking and finding all the research items, finding all of the different pathways through the game by unlocking and working with xos and completing missions in just the right way, designing min maxed battleships to slug through the campaign on higher and higher difficulties it was just so much fun. No oher game - not even the dreadnaughts game that came out a couple of years ago has come close and certainly in no way entering into the sci fi aspects this game did. I found it in a bargain bin at KB before they went out of business after havng played Naval Ops Warship Gunner on PS2 for hundreds of hours and WG2 just refined everyting WG did to 110%
I love this game. Both the PS2 and PSP version have a special place in my heart. The PS2 disc that I have is sadly unusable now due to disc rot, but I am still playing the PSP version to this day. Of course, I emulated the game, but I do believe that a native port to PC would be a great addition to Good Old Games' catalogue.
Of course, they will probably have to either get Koei Tecmo's permission to reverse engineer the code and recompile them for PC or somehow convince Koei to remake this game themselves (which is unlikely), but hey, a man can hope, you know.
