Story:Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a story-driven fighting game that casts you in the shoes of Sub-Zero, and chronicles a series of events that occurred prior to Mortal Kombat 1. It is the first Mortal Kombat game to feature side-scrolling gameplay.
Gameplay wise the game takes the Mortal Kombat familiar 2D fighting environment and turns it into a hybrid fighter/platformer game, where you must travel trough hazardous levels running and jumping around as well as fighting your way against both digitized and polygonal enemies. Sub-Zero's interface is the same as in every MK game, with the addition of a "use" and "turn around" buttons and additions such as an inventory, and a slight RPG twist in which you get exp. for defeating opponents, which translates into new techniques and moves to execute in the game.Show more

Let me make a case for this game. In recent years, I've come to believe that with some tweaks to platforming, and a good control scheme, MK: Mythologies could've been looked at more positively. The game does have that 90's charm, with live action cutscenes. I believe if you gave this game the kind of treatment stuff like the Konami collections got, put in save states and rewind, and a theater to view all the FMV cutscenes, it would be great.

My memory is of a fabled pc port of this game which was reviewed by certain publications like PC Gamer. As a pc only gamer back then I always wanted it to exist but there's hardly a trace that it was ever planned nowadays.
Okay, I have a WEIRD relationship with this game. I grew up with the SNES port of Mortal Kombat 2, which was my introduction into the franchise. I didn't know about this game's existence until AVGN made a video about it almost a decade ago. Even though his opinion on it was less than favorable, I was intrigued by the premise. I remember excitedly connecting its lore with Mortal Kombat X, When Scorpion found out Quan Chi killed his family, not Bi Han! I decided to try it after another Youtuber, DashieGames, played it several times. Eventually, I hunted down a disc for my PS1. To be honest, I don't really get what all the fuss was about. Sure it's difficult, and kind of cryptic, but I actually had a fun time with this game! The visuals are nostalgic, the music and sound design superb, even to this day, and the story, while cheesy, was genuinley cool in my opinion! I only wish we could've gotten at least one more entry in this spin-off series, where you play as Scorpion! He's always been my favorite character, but I was dissapointed when I learned there were no more games like this one. Shaolin Monks came kinda close, (and I'd like to see that game on GOG as well), but I would like nothing more than to play this great, albeit niche, game on my modern hardware. PLEASE make this happen!
