LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (2022)

by Traveller's Tales, WB Games
Genres:Adventure, Puzzle
Themes:Action, Comedy, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Co-operative, Multiplayer, Split screen
Story:Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a third-person action-adventure with an open world hub. Unlike previous Lego games in which players had to advance through the story in a linear order, players can now choose to start the game from any of the main Skywalker Saga episodes and complete them in any order they wish. Each episode has their own hub filled with planets featured prominently in each respective film that can be visited and explored. Each episode will have five story missions each, a total of 45 levels. Combat has also been revamped, such as lightsaber fights now involving a variety of combos with light attacks, heavy attacks, and Force moves, and blaster characters having an over-the-shoulder camera angle featured in many third-person shooter games. Random encounters will also happen in the game's hub. For example, an Imperial Star Destroyer will suddenly jump out of hyperspace and send a fleet of TIE Fighters after the player. Players can choose to engage in dogfights with them or continue onward to progress the story. The game will have more than 200 playable characters, though TT Games has said that number will change.Show more

It is very much a non-traditional LEGO game, but I really love what they managed to create. The environments and characters are nothing short of gorgeous and the game itself runs very well on modest hardware (stable 60FPS on a 1060 6GB). The levels and hubs are beautiful, very fun to explore and full of content and cool encounters (I especially adore Cloud City and Tatooine hubs). You can see that they took care and not just threw the old formula out of the window - every "breaking" design change I can see being justified within the greater context. I can understand some of the criticisms of the game - the main chunk of gameplay is exploring hubs and completing challenges/quests and main plot levels aren't really the center stage anymore. It's also fair to not like the new quest system - it was really fun for me, but I can see some people being thrown off. The sheer number of collectibles is also a bit daunting and (despite a lot of fun encounters) you can get bored/burnt out pretty quickly. I 100%-ed the game in coop and it was insanely fun and rewarding. Note though, that it did take me a lot of time (both in in-game hours and real time) and I can see myself being a bit bored had I not spaced out the gameplay sessions more. I would love to be able to purchase it on GOG - given the latest track record of older LEGO games coming to GOG it probably won't be anytime soon, but it would be really cool to add it to my GOG LEGO games collection. It's a really cool game, it'd be a shame if it was lost to time.

It looks fun to play and i would really like to have it on GOG, not only on other platforms to save it forever. Looks the game i would like to play with my kids. The other LEGO SW game on GOG is just too outdated. Lost interest of playing in after a couple trials.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the follow up to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It is the first prequel in the series, taking the series to the year 1964. The player takes the role as the series' original antagonist, Big Boss, then known as Naked Snake. MGS3 is the first game in the series to take place in a jungle. This unique setting created an opportunity for new mechanics. The player can adapt to the environment by swapping Snake's camouflage, hunt animals and gather plants for food. This iteration in the series introduced a new feature in which the player must apply medicine and perform medical procedures on Snake if he is damaged in combat. Apart from the survival themed features, the controls and gameplay of the game are very similar to Metal Gear Solid 2. Like other Metal Gear games, the focus is on stealth, but the player can go through the entire game like a shooter if they choose to. Throughout the game Snake acquires weapons of all types; non-lethal firearms, handguns, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, sub-machine guns, and explosives. Metal Gear Solid 3 was the first game to implement the CQC (close quarters combat) system. CQC allowed Snake to beat enemies down to knock them out, or put them in a chokehold to knock them out, kill them, or and/or question them. Metal Gear Solid 3's health system required the player to occasionally pause the game and treat Snake's ailments. When Snake is shot, there is a chance that the bullet didn't pass through him, requiring the player to use a knife to remove the bullet, apply disinfectant, apply styptic and bandage the wound. This was done through a submenu in the pause screen. Other ailments the player must treat Snake for include: leeches, broken bones, burns, cut, arrow/bolts/needles, stomach sickness, colds, and food/venom poisoning. Adding to the survival elements of the game, Snake Eater lives up to its name by requiring the player to scavenge food for Snake. Under the life bar there is stamina bar. If Snake does not eat any food the bar depletes, causing various effects. When the stamina bar is low, the player's ability to aim is severely handicapped, Snake's hands will shake in the first person aiming mode. Just like real life, Snake's stomach can also rumble, enemy soldiers can hear this, and will be alerted to Snake's presence.
