This game was easily one of the most unique and entertaining racers of its time. Each truck was like driving through a different Lego set, from a knights castle to a space station hidden on another planet.
The game played a little like Mario kart, where you drove around the track and collected power ups the were either red (offensive upgrades) blue (defensive upgrades) or green (speed boost upgrades)
A unique feature to the item collection though, is that collecting the same color in a row allowed you to increase the power of the upgrade, with each upgrade having multiple abilities tied to it
(For example, a level 1 boost was just a quick burst of power, where’s a max level boost opened a dimensional vortex, teleporting you across the map)
Hands down the best aspect of this game though, was the ability to build your own race car.
Starting with a series of unlockable base templates, you could attach all sorts of Lego pieces to make some really unique designs! And then you could take those designs bro split screen multiplayer, or use them in the main tournament mode (and time trials, if I recall)
As a huge Lego fan and of gamer, there was nothing quite like this game for me, and it’s something I always enjoyed going back to.
i really think this deserves to be preserved for future generations to play. It may not have much in the way of realism, but as an arcade racer, especially for anyone who enjoys Lego, there is nothing like it
