I like motorcycles stuff and like sims and stuff and nascar too stuff and uhhhhhhhh you like baseball? Anyone here who are Chicago white sox fans? I know the team is fried but still
I remember seeing this game and wanting it, but we did not have a computer. Once I was finally able to play it at home, it was no longer sold/found in stores. It wasn't until a couple of more years that I was able to buy GP500 as a full-game release through a PC gaming magazine, and I was finally able to enjoy it.
By then there was Superbikes 2001 by EA that looked better but GP500 was special as not only it captured the (now long gone) 500cc machinery, it featured a few historied riders and a good calendar, and it had simple but dreamy gameplay. The modding community also greatly extended the life of this game through the Windows XP era but it has become impossible to run it with modern machinery and OS outside of a Virtual Machine.
This being on GOG would be absolutely fantastic. Melbourne House did a great job with this game and it was part of Micro Prose's rich history.
I was not into racing at all, but then I found a copy of GP 500 inside a famous (and not so legal) collection of games, known in Italy as Twilight.
I was bored, so I tried to run a race...years passed and I am 33 years old now, a huge fan of car racing and bike racing thanks to that spark bursting to life on an old Windows XP desktop.
As a big fan of racing games I consider the simulation of this game was back in the day a miracle, and still remains. It's one of those games that you can feel the vehicle while driving it.
I was a fan of the Motorcycle World Championship at that time but with this game I became a huuuuge fan, as I could see on the TV that the braking points, the tyre grip, the phisics on the acceleration, the rear sliding, the fork rebounds... all of that was very similar on this game and made me understand much better the racing and the competition. Nowadays I go to ride on track from time to time, and I could say that the basics of the motorcycle sport riding on track, I learned it on this game!
The AI, the Online were both out of the range on those years, and the the modding community was amazing.
This game was one of the main reasons I started working on videogames industry and why I currently make my own games. Even 25 years later I can see some of the greatest mods online and some of my models still being used!
Well what to say... It is without any doubt, one of the TOP#5 racing games ever, and for sure TOP#1 in motorcycle simulation.
It MUST be preserved. It MUST be playable today and for ever so next gamer generations know what a great game it was and will ever be.

FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival.
Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed.
The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo.
As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity.
Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control.
