Fur Fighters: Viggo's Revenge

Fur Fighters: Viggo's Revenge (2001)

Story:Fur Fighters (titled "Furrballs" in early development) is a video game developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment for the Dreamcast in 2000, later for Microsoft Windows. The game was designed very much as a standard third-person shooter, but used a world populated by cute little animals as its setting. As a result, the game's depiction of violence is very cartoon-like without losing any of its intensity. In 2001, an updated version for the PlayStation 2 was released as Fur Fighters: Viggo's RevengeShow more

I love this game, it's such a shame it dissapeared away with other forgotten assets after all the shutting down and amalgamating of game companies. I played the PS2 version as a kid and loved it (no I never wanted to shoot anything because of this game- I understood, even then, that they were weapons and tools to be used carefully and not toys, similar to knives). There hasn't been any other game like it, even to this day. Unique and I loved it. I never played the dreamcast and/or PC version but I would be willing to settle for that as long as it meant I could buy it one way or another on GOG (even though the non-PS2 versions didn't have voice acting). Also I have noticed sometimes the game has the cel shading style on that I remember and sometimes it doesn't- I think the PC version didn't? Either way, I preferred it with that on as it looked more cartoony sort of but I as I said previously would take any version of the game as long as it worked :) I loved rescuing the babies back in the day and have played through the game many times- this game is what really got me into video games and why I love them, although I had played some games and been interested before that- like some version of frogger on someones table arcade thing? and pong and space invaders, old school tomb raider, etc. My grandfather would allow me to play for an hour or two after completing my homework when I sometimes stayed with him after school (my parents didn't live close to my school so I would walk there instead). The last time I heard any news about this license, there was an app store version released called Viggo on glass I think? And that there is a fan created game being created slowly but that may have changed. I don't have access to a PS2 anymore but I play tonnes of PC games now on Windows and would love to play it again modern day

Alongside the smurf racing game, this game was my childhood. Viggo's Revenge was gifted to me by an uncle on my father's side who has been gone for a long time. Every time I see the PS2 case on the shelf, I am reminded that I must focus on the future, what memories will I leave behind for others to carry in my stead, what kinds of people are we raising in the present. How can I make sure they grow up feeling love? I care a great deal for this game, and though I never buy full priced, I will in honor of my uncle. I didn't know him well, and I don't believe we spent enough time together, but alongside my mother he moved me into the future and helped shape the person I eventually became.
I played way back then on PS2 and i was almost done claiming probably like 95% but never made it to the LAST Boss.. I had a very good friend who also wanted to play this game. So i booted the game and before i could react he accidentally overwrote my save file.. I never recovered from it and even started from scratch, but failed by motivation. Now that I replayed Spyro Reignited Trilogy, I stumbled over the thought of Fur Fighter. Since then this need to replay and finish it was so strong that I looked a lot of stuff up but don't really want to play on an (probably) illegal emulator. Then i stumbled about this site and thought: "OK, i need to get this out and hopefully in near future there will be a way to comfortably play it again." And of course, beating it this time! :)
This version of Fur Fighters is my personal favorite. It would be my ideal port, although with slight tweaks (or should I say...Tweeks? Just kidding--), primarily to controls. While I can somewhat adjust to its...interesting stick layout, it wouldn't be the case with most other people. The automatic aim leveling while moving diagonally is also pretty annoying so having it as a toggle would be nice. As this port has generally better design (in levels, cutscenes etc.), fixes from prior versions and additional content not seen in the other versions (music, voices, weapons, enemies, new level), it'd be great if this version saw the light of day again. Mark Craig did once answer me when I asked and said he'd "love to [bring Fur Fighters back] but can't see [himself] having the time to [do it] anytime soon". This gives me hope that Fur Fighters could return one day. Even if it isn't this version, I'd still play it, absolutely. It means a lot to me.
