Found the Sega Genesis cart at a Funcoland in Minneapolis, Minnesota, summer of 1994. Spent $15 or so bucks of lawn money and dozens, if not hundreds, of hours playing this with my tabletop D&D buddies that lived across the street. I remember the night we realized the character portraits changed depending on how beat up they were; it was 0230 in the morning, and we weren’t sure if it was real or our eyes were blurry. Their dad was our DM and helped us overcome some of the tougher dungeons, which featured an impressively detailed mapping system that filled in as you explored. Took several attempts of trial and error, maximizing our characters to finally beat the game. We were presented with a pass code or some other means to "Save" our progress for future adventures; a promise that, as far as I'm aware, never came to fruition.
I have such fond memories of this game, and I am astounded at how few people know that it exists. Regrettably, after a dozen or so playthroughs, I eventually sold it to That Game Store (actual name, RIP) in Janesville, Wisconsin, for about $30 bucks in or around 1999. Since then, I’ve only found it in emulated form.
Simply put, this is a game worth preserving and it would be a tremendous addition to the library. I would love to see any booklets, featurettes, or behind-the-scenes type stuff you could find. Please, make it so.
