I played the entire Dogz/Catz series from PF Magic when I was a child. It fostered both my love of animals and the magic of computers and what games could offer. Something so cute and simple as a virtual pet offered an innovative approach to 2.5D by using circle sprites in a time when 3D graphics weren't the norm. The Pets AI could learn to do tricks, the genetics when it came to breeding took from both the appearance of the parents and even the grandparents (sometimes I would see traits from older generations pop up) as well as their temperament and overall personality trait. It made logging onto the computer everyday something to look forward to, and eventually, although I haven't been able to come back to this game yet (hoping gog can bring it back some day), it inspired me onwards all the way to my career, getting a degree in CS, working with AI and making indie games in my spare time. I love these games and will always look back at them fondly, missing my virtual companions and their cute and nostalgic 'woof' and 'meow'. P.s. watching a cat catch a mouse was by far the most hilarious bit of the game.
