Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles is one of the most underrated and essential collections in the Castlevania franchise. Released for the PSP in 2007, this bundle is more than just a remake—it’s a celebration of Castlevania's finest moments. It features a full 2.5D remake of Rondo of Blood, unlockable versions of the original Rondo of Blood, and the legendary Castlevania: Symphony of the Night—all in one incredible package.
The remake adds beautiful new visuals, voice acting, and animated cutscenes while preserving the tight gameplay of the original. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, The Dracula X Chronicles offers a fantastic way to experience the transition from the classic linear games to the Metroidvania style that would define the series moving forward.
Unfortunately, it’s stuck on a handheld console that many never got to own. That’s where GOG comes in.
GOG is known for preserving and reviving classic games for modern systems, DRM-free and optimized for today’s hardware. Bringing The Dracula X Chronicles to GOG would make this important part of Castlevania history widely accessible once again, with no emulators or outdated hardware required.

I had this on the PSP back when it was new. It included the Rondo of Blood remake, the Rondo of Blood Original (Unlockable), and Symphony of the Night (Also Unlockable). I would love to be able to pick this up on PC and give it another go. It would be a great way to have these games on PC and GOG than through this Chronicles Collection.

The game tells the story of several characters who become trapped on Yamijima Island, an island off the coast of mainland Japan. On August 3, 1976, an underwater cable was cut, and all power to the island was lost. During the subsequent blackout, all of the islanders disappeared and the island became deserted. Twenty-nine years later, in 2005, a magazine editor called Mamoru Itsuki is visiting the island to conduct research for an article when the ferry he and a small group of other passengers are on capsizes, after it is hit by a red tidal wave. Shortly after his arrival, a group of soldiers crash land on the island after their helicopter has engine troubles. They must all find ways to survive the island's "monsters", the shibito.
The game is played through several character perspectives, each with his or her own strengths and weaknesses, through an overlapping timeline of the fateful night that alternates between the present and the past. The story can unfold in different ways with, in many cases, two or more different versions of a level, which will have slightly different objectives than the original. Fatal FrameFatal Frame is the first game of the Fatal Frame series, introducing the franchise's unique premise of fighting ghosts with a special camera.
Fatal Frame was the first to introduce the innovative use of an old-style camera as the primary weapon. In addition to navigating the main characters around the mansion grounds, players are able to enter Viewfinder Mode, where the camera is raised and the view changes to that of the camera's frame. In viewfinder mode the player is able to snap photographs of ghosts, both violent and benign, which is the main method of progressing through the game. Items are also available, some being consumable and most being key items needed to unlock doors, complete tasks or solve puzzles. Puzzles are encountered frequently in the game, some being based on the same concept but becoming progressively more difficult. The varying difficulty settings of the game (Easy, Normal, Hard, Nightmare, or Fatal (Xbox only)) determine the amount of consumable items scattered throughout the mansion and how formidable the enemies are.
The main horror aspect of the game is, undoubtedly, the ghosts. The mechanics programmed for the ghosts allow them to float ethereally through the air, walls and floors, and even teleport, allowing them many ways to attack the player. The ghosts' appearances are usually inspired by their deaths or by Japanese stigmas of horror, which, some argue, are particularily chilling.
The game, depending on which console it is played on, offers two endings. Upon completion of the game, a ranking is given based on total time taken, points accumulated and other categories. The player is also given rewards and unlockables, such as alternate costumes and camera functions, depending on what difficulty was beaten, how much of the Ghost List was completed and other criteria. Beating the game also unlocks Battle Mode, where the player is faced with fighting specific ghosts, and is rewarded with points towards purchasing unlockables.
