Story:Beasts & Bumpkins is a real time strategy game, with gameplay which can be compared to Warcraft. It tells the story of Lord Mildew (your alter ego), a poor member of the royal family, who has been thrown away from his country.
Your task is to complete over 30 missions in order to regain your former reputation. You'll have to set up prospering towns in order to gain wealth, which is required to supply an army. With your army, you'll have to defend your villages against beasts and other evil folks.Show more
I first saw this game in a PC game store back when those still existed. It caught my attention, and I hid it at the back of the shelf so I could buy it the next day. This game became a big part of my childhood. Today, I’m 38, and my sister and I used to love playing it. It’s a mix of strategy and city simulation. Characters have children, and you assign them roles within the city. Managing resources is key—if there’s no food, people starve; if there are no priests to bury the dead, plagues spread. You can appoint a tax collector to increase revenue, but high taxes may lead to crime, requiring an executioner to maintain order. The missions are diverse and engaging. One requires retrieving a relic and defeating a vampire, another involves escorting a sacred cow to a specific location, and another challenges you to prepare your city against an incoming giant invasion. The game constantly tests your strategic thinking while keeping things fresh. I believe more people would love this game if they tried it. A little-known fact is that Raphael Colantonio, creator of Dishonored and Prey, worked on it early in his career. This game holds a special place in my heart, not just for the gameplay but for the nostalgia and memories. Even after all these years, I still think it’s a masterpiece that deserves more recognition, and I would instantly buy it if GOG made it playable today.
It was one of the very first video games I owned. Played it so much. And then again way later when I got older.
I remember my sister playing it tons as well. She was just playing the same levels over and over again, spamming chicken coops and loved to build the whole map full. Megatowns!
Love this game so much. It's not perfect, but the charm and mysterious atmosphere is so strong here. Overall the production quality is pretty high, never had any technical issues, looks great and the music is fantastic.
I keep checking if this gem is finally available and yet still nothing. I love this game even if my first time playing I could not save due to a bug; but since i couldn't go online and check, I just thought "oh i probably need to reach a certain point or level to save" so..every day i would start over for the first island and after a while I became good enough to easily speed run the game to almost the last mission. However, faced with the necessity to sleep and stuff to do, I wasn't able to complete the game until..I find out that running the game from the correct exe in the installation folder would actually allow me to finally save the game. I felt joy relief and kinda stupid but didn't matter because I this point I was great at the game and I could finally drop a save..even during missions..oh I'm getting emotional again..anyway.. Bring it back GOG! Please! Even without the save option!
one of my first games i ever played on pc. pretty dope. The nostalgia is too strong for me that I just cant wait for this to be preserved and be playable today. It's educational and also its one of the first games that lets me manage a medieval town with seasons too. Come on GOG lets get this game playable soon.
Please, help bring one of the most bizarre and funny memories playing this game!) I don't remember the details, but I remember a unique vibe of this game, and would love to once again discover it!
Beasts & Bumpkins – mein absolutes Lieblingsspiel!
Was dieses Spiel für mich so unvergesslich macht, ist der einzigartige Humor, das liebevoll gestaltete Gameplay und vor allem der Sound. Man kümmert sich um ein kleines Dorf und muss dafür sorgen, dass das Volk überlebt und wächst. Dazu baut man Häuser, sorgt für Nahrung und verteidigt sich gegen Gefahren.
Besonders gefallen hat mir, dass die Dorfbewohner eine echte Altersstruktur haben – erst sind es Kinder, dann Erwachsene und später alte Leute. Das hat dem Spiel eine besondere Tiefe verliehen. Und natürlich die genialen, witzigen Sprüche der einzelnen Charaktere – die haben mich immer wieder zum Lachen gebracht!
Ich habe es früher stundenlang gespielt und wünsche mir sehr, dass Beasts & Bumpkins endlich auf GOG erscheint – damit ich es wieder genießen und auch mit anderen teilen kann!
