Played this game so much in high school and college, I played as the Spanish constantly. Sad it was removed from other stores online....it's a classic that deserves to be here.
This was one of the first games I played when I got my first computer. Sometimes, I just want to build the whole world than conquer the enemies. This is by far my favorite remastered version compared to the Definition Edition. It proves that story and architectural details trump high-quality graphics. Sadly, the publisher marked this version as retired on Steam just so people can buy the new Definition Edition, which hides some empires packages behind DLC
In the times of Windows XP, I installed Windows 98 SE as a secondary OS just to play this game. In that times, Windows XP couldn't play Age of Empires 2. I remember I bought online PDF with strategy guide, and printed it on laser printer, put into foil sleeves for documents, and put it into binder. I was standing on my shelf, no matter how long I haven't played AoE2. I still probably have it.
good game since i was a child i play it many times , each time changing the civilization/nation and exploring the unique troops of each , best hero wiliam walas and herculis
I prefer the HD version (compared to Definitive Edition) as it keeps the original graphic style and voices. But you shloud add the Africain Kingdoms expansion. I could talk so much about this game but I'll just say this version is the best and a must for GOG members.
The first time I got my hands of the Age of Empires demo for win 98 on the Pentium II 266 Mhz pc we had at that specific time, as a kid I was awed how the game looked, felt, and overall was amazingly developed at that time - me and my older brother love history and watched documentaries of the old world as kids, so we were hooked right then and there. When AoE II the age of kings got out, I will never forget that I shouted to my brother: ITS WORKING!!! Because I was afraid as a kid that the pc at the time couldn't handle it, lucky for us it did. The sheer excitement when I saw the game menu appear and the music started, was for a kid and a fan of the game simply pure joy. AoE II and everything that came with it was great and would love to see this HD edition on GOG and relive it all over again.

Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them.
