unique and frustrating
Z is polished and challenging, but also frustrating. In Z, all buildings are attached to a territory and switch sides the instant an enemy robot reaches the flag. The only currency is time. Powerful units cost more time. Controlling territories reduces time cost. Units are diverse. Every vehicle has a driver and can be captured by any other robot, making snipers dangerous. Light infantry move faster, dodge better, and die faster. Fast vehicles can outrun slow shells, howitzers can shell from a distance, and heavy tanks can take hits but can't dodge. Infantry wades through water and swamps. Bridges and buildings can be destroyed or rebuilt. Rock walls can be blasted. 4 fixed guns can be built per territory, and these too can be captured if their robot is killed. Robots curse and cheer. Now for the frustration. The enemy is relentless, grabbing territory fast and hitting your weak spots. You need to act quickly or you'll dig a hole. Explosions launch shrapnel into the air, turning a single kill into an unpredictable chain reaction. Grenades are a threat to the soldiers carrying them. Fast vehicles will take a hit before evading. Some units will fight from maximum range and take more damage than if they charged. Having your orders backfire is aggravating. But it's still fun to manage the diverse troops. The controlled chaos is exciting. Winning a fight takes planning, speed, and reflexes. Multiplayer is probably fun if you can get a game going.
