World-famous red-haired adventurer Adol Christin awakens in the unfamiliar land of Celceta, remembering nothing more than his own name. Bereft of his past, Adol explores the town he happened to wander into, searching for any clues at all to his identity. Joined by a thief who claims to have spent some time at his side these past weeks, the young adventurer helps rescue doomed miners from a collapse – an act which ingratiates him to the local Romun Army general. Impressed with their skills, the pair is enlisted to explore the Great Forest of Celceta and map its vast expanses – a task which many have attempted in the past, but from which none have ever returned alive.

Eager to unravel the mystery of his past and the cause of his predicament, Adol sets off with his new-old thief friend, Duren, to chart the untamed wilderness that claimed his memories. Along the way he meets numerous other individuals who seem to have encountered him before, and must carefully determine who among them can be trusted.

Developer Nihon Falcom originally revisited the land and characters of Japanese cult favorite Ys IV in 2012 with Ys: Memories of Celceta on the PlayStation Vita, and the game found its way to North America the following year. Now, this re-envisioning moves from the small screen to PC monitors, with a bevy of updates and enhancements to fully take advantage of its new platform.

Featuring a unique take on the party-based combat system that’s come to define modern Ys titles, as well as one of the largest and most varied overworlds in the series’ long and illustrious history, Ys: Memories of Celceta brings a greater sense of adventure to the Ys universe than ever before, with this PC iteration serving as the definitive version of one of the franchise’s most pivotal entries.
  • Fully Enjoy the Land of Celceta with a Host of PC Enhancements: This remaster comes with a wide range of HD resolutions, fixed framerates up to 120 fps with the option to unlock the framerate altogether, fully customizable control bindings, fully integrated mouse support, and more!
  • Explore One of the Most Expansive Locales in the Series’ History: The overworld of Celceta metes out battle and exploration in equal measure, accompanied by a robust mapping system with customizable waypoints and clear, detailed icons that aid the journey of Adol and company through this mysterious new land where enigmas and obstacles wait around every bend.
  • Experience a Crucial Cornerstone of Ys Lore: The events that occur over the course of Ys: Memories of Celceta’s lengthy campaign serve as some of the most important and far-reaching in the franchise, yet remain entirely self-contained so even series newcomers can fully enjoy the story.
  • Throw Down the Gauntlet in Time Attack and Boss Rush Modes: Fan-favorite Time Attack mode returns, complete with its ultimate Boss Rush challenge, pitting Adol alone against implacable foes or allowing for full-on party combat to keep the battle going well after the main story has been completed. GOG Galaxy leaderboards have been implemented as well, accessible and viewable even in-game to see how you stack up against other Celcetan boss-slayers around the world!

A fine Falcom title, PC port and Ys game

I've always appreciated Falcom PC ports - there are so many options added to help older or portable games feel welcome in the PC space. Similar to the Trails series, you get a bevvy of options when launching the game. I'm running a 1080p/60fps @ max settings, with no issues compared to how this handled on the Vita. There is the option to run at 120fps also. My playtime had started on the Vita version, so I can say that Ys Celceta is fast-paced, full of good music, tough and worth your time. Perhaps compared to grander RPGs, the story isn't as much of a focus. Thanks to the top notch localisation (thanks XSEED!), the characters and NPCs still show a lot of life making it worthwhile to talk to everyone and check everything. The gameplay is most comparable to Ys VII on the PSP (and GoG), but not like the style of the older games. Overall, I reckon your time will be well spent with Ys Celceta - Not many devs put care into PC ports but this is handled perfectly here. A great game and a great port!

Excellent port for a great game

Having recently played the original Vita title on a few plane trips, I can say that this is definitely the definitive version as long as playing it in a portable format isn't a priority. Basically everything is improved. It's got support for tons of resolutions (although if you choose something wider than 16:9 it's got the vertical bars), FPS locks at 30, 60, and 120 plus an unlocked option, expansive controller support (plus options to set the button icons in game to 360 or PS4 icons), and a load of graphical enhancements and settings to make the Vita-grade visuals look as good as possible on PC. As for the game itself, it's pretty good. The story is pretty basic and on a smaller scale than most JRPGs, but the localization it top notch and the dialogue is fun. The combat is fast and satisfying but Falcom tends to avoid overcomplicating their fighting systems so don't go in expecting something like a modern day Tales game. You've got a primary attack combo plus special skills you can use pretty frequently, but with a gauge in place to prevent constant spam. Using skills builds a meter that is used for "Extra" skills, which are big ol' wombo combo things you can do for massive damage. Aside from that there's a simple aerial system and a simple damage type system to encourage you to use all of your party members. There's also a lightweight crafting system to let you enhance your weapons and armor with attributes like poison damage or passive HP healing. It's interesting and worth using but you won't need to break out any spreadsheets to use it effectively. It's basically a "trade items and money to make my stuff more awesome" kind of deal. Highly recommended if you like action RPGs but don't need them to be a hundred hours long or overly complicated.

One of the best Ys title

I really didn't expect anything playing this game after finishing Lacrimosa of Dana. But it was, fortunately, a purchase well made. The game itself is relatively short. I clocked at about 50-ish hour to finish it. Admittedly, I was a bit rushed, but at least I got 100% map completion. One thing that I think will be the main point of this game, of course, is its gameplay. It'sfast-paced, flashy, and challenging, especially on higher difficulties. Although, I am not very good at it, so some would say that the game is easier than other Ys titles. i like the varied aspects of the game such as its exchange system, materials and weapons/ armors refinement, quests, etc. materials gathering can be a bit of a grind-fest, and money is somewhat rather hard to come by. But it's nothing nearly frustrating. One thing that I don't really like is that the ending is so, very abrupt. It just... ended. No epilogue, no further explanation, nothing. I know story is not Ys' strongest side, but this time it kind of just left me a abit wanting. All in all, it is a solid Ys title.

Excellent port and a good game

Overall a great game, the only letdown is the end sequence. Good points: The group system is good. Each character having a map ability is great. The drop rate is good, dont need a lot of time to find itens needed to upgrade weapons and armors The port is great i dont have any problem. The bad part begin near the end game. Galba enemies that only Adol can kill.(good that are few) End sequence with a fixed party.(very short) And the worst, the last and unnecessary boss, a VERY easy and boring fight that Adol need fight alone

A solid bet in the franchise

Such a clever title - which basically plays around the fact that it is an early impression review. While I normally not like those - I can bet (see what I did there?) that it will be completely accurate. As can be seen with Ys Origins, I really took a liking to these games. Although I haven't plans to look into the other entries personally, I can see that they have to be mostly solid as well - for their time at least. Now back to Memories of Celceta (Which apparently has a different name somewhere it seems). Same as Origins, the game comes with a quite expensive configuration tool where you can change various graphical settings, change your button layout for both keyboard and controller, as well as some qol adjustments. Starting up, you are greeted with a nice looking title screen, intro and opening scene (... I think, I remember seeing it but I can't remember it being in the game. Guess I'm getting old. Anyway, it was good!) Shortly after that, the game begins with a charme I could only describe as "the old era" - before games, especially jrpgs changed their style. In fact, you can see that this game is basically from the transition phase of these two - which means it almost messed up for me. ALMOST. But it's pretty good. Compared to Origins, they switched to a full 3D style and a more modern approach. The combat has been refined by adding block, evade, skills and finishers, as well as switching between party members. The game also expands its content to having towns (at least looking at the tutorial - there is at least one, though.), quests, stores, equip-refinement and chats with way more NPCs. Looking at a known site for game times, it will probably take at least five times longer to beat (so roughly 20-25 hours). So while only checking the first hour out, I can safely assume that I got to see mostly everything there is to expand upon later. And having looked into the franchise, I hardly believe they've messed up. Recommended - feel free to check it out!
