OOh, well I really enjoyed that
I don't recall hearing about XIII before but I downloaded it as the graphics looked interesting and the reviews were pretty praising. Overall I loved it. The comic book visuals look great and mean that the game hasn't aged. I have not played an FPS (or other game for that matter) that matches the comic book style as well as this. Features such as the close-up frames for great shots and the "tap tap tap" visuals to indicate enemy movements are really nice touches and add a lot to the feel of the game. There are a lot of levels, some requiring stealth, some gung-ho action and some a combination of both. The levels are pretty linear and do suffer a bit from the invisible wall syndrome but one can get over this. There are the occasional "boss" battles which I generally hate in these games. Aside from the last one, they weren't too tricky and were achieveable either first go or soon after. One thing that did annoy me a little, for a PC game is the checkpoint save process. Save checkpoints often seemed to happen when you immediately need to do something tedious like gather weapons or navigate through a load of corridoors. This is my main gripe with this game and is not major compared to how thoroughly I enjoyed tha game. It is just frustrating when you keep triggering an alert and have to walk over this, climb that, get that for the 10th time. Overall a very pleasing style and presentation, with nice comic book touches (seems to match the original comic I have since looked up). The graphics have not dated because of this. Sound is, on the whole, good. Gameplay is pretty satisfying and there is a plot to try and follow too. Not felt to write anything on GOG before (even though have quite a few games now) but this was a gem of a find....thanks GOG. Note: Online multiplayer option via Ubisoft no longer seem available but LAN and bot mods are.
Hilft dir das weiter?
