Worthy successor

I approached this game with a huge amount of doubt but after playing for a couple of hours I have say it's great. Not awesome but it will give you the X-com fix. You build bases just like the original series and when it comes to combat it feels more like Jagged Alliance. To name the differences, the game has been simplified in some ways. If you develop a new weapon for your fighter jets, they are automatically retrofitted with the strongest possible, you no longer need to buy ammo for them either, or for any of your weapons. The tactical missions have the exact old school feel. The AI, even on easiest setting, is pretty decent so it's not as easy as you might think and your soldiers can earn medals so there's always something work towards too. This game has many subtle touches that make it fun. The research tree is also different, offering you more stuff than the original series which is good. All in all, I definitely recommend this game as the best X-com clone out there.

Great X-COM like game.

Very much like the original game. The UI is improved and less clunky than the original despite what others may believe. There are still rough edges but it is improved. You can quickly move between units using the number keys. You an increase aim (TU increase) by right clicking on an enemy (JA styles). If you are fast you can move multiple units at a time. This last feature really makes the gameplay faster than the new reboot. I don't care for the air combat, so the auto resolve is wonderful, just send enough fighters . This game is pretty much as close to a real face lift to the original X-Com game as you can get. If you enjoyed the original or games like Jagged Alliance give this game a roll, you will most likely enjoy it. I have over 60 hours in Xenonauts (early adopter) and XCOM rebot. I will be putting more hours in to Xenonauts than the XCom reboot.

Just a 'small' problem...

Well, I bet it's a nice game and all. Except for me, that is. If you're visually impaired, chances are high you won't be able to read any ingame text at all. And for all I found about this game, you'll read a lot. Which wouldn't be so much of a deal, if the windowed mode would work properly. Which it does not. And I'm done spending more than 5 hours to make these small font stuff work out for me by finding ways around, testing a bunch of magnifying softwares again and again. Not even custom resolutions work here. Boy, how I hate those engine choices. So, I can't play it. Therefore, bad rating. Shit happens. Goodbye, money.

Font Too Small - I Cannot Play.

Font is awfully small. It gave me a head-ache just loading the game and opening the option menu. Lowering the resolution only made the screen blurrier, without resizing the font. Closed the game in frustration. I searched Google for work-arounds; only an incomplete user-made mod seems to exist. I wish I could review the actual game as meant to be played by devs. I currently can't; out of frustration I'll post a partial review.

XCOM Reborn.

This game captures XCOM almost perfectly, and it basically gives every XCOM fan exactly what we wanted all along, a game that is true to the old XCOM formula, with a fresh coat of paint. Of course that's not to imply that the upgrade is limited to the graphics, the game brings along some new features of it's own and improves on some aspects that were lacking in the old XCOM. First of all, the game now features a class system, which isn't nearly as constricting as the one in XCOM:EU, although it's slightly more shallow as it mostly serves as an equipment preset rather than giving your soldiers more character progression as they develop abilities. Still, the new weapons do alot to inject more strategy into combat, each type of weapon and class having it's own advantages and flaws, it falls to you to use them to the best of your abilities. The game is also(dare I say) more challenging than the original XCOM, the aliens are far more active than they were in the original, and the map has a feature which allows you to see reports of alien activity on the map(even in areas outside your radar range) which makes the struggle against the aliens that much more immersive and overwhelming. All in all it's a great remake of the original XCOM, if you're a fan of the old one you should buy this without hesitation.
