Smash TV meets Aliens. I'm in!
As it says above, it's Shash TV meets Aliens and it's bloody awesome. Great pixel art, great gameplay, sounds and music fits well, couch coop, great all round. Also for those with actual Megadrives, Neo Geo's and emulators, you can order actual working CARTRIDGES of this game for those systems from Bitmap Bureau's website. Worth it if you want it on the shelf.

This is a really good game...here's why:
So, most might not know that this is actually a game made for the original Sega Mega Drive. Yes its a new game made for an old system, by new developers. Make sure you consider this when you're looking at purchasing or playing this game. Xeno Crisis isn't just a retro-themed game, It literally runs on original hardware as well, so know what you're getting into. It is 100% made in the vein of those old games. On an original SMD....well its like next to impossible to clear lvl 2 lol, I'm admittedly not super good however. But anyway, the fact that they cut this down to work on a SMD cart is amazing and worthy of praise in and of itself. The fact that it was ported to the PC, PS4, Xbox, and the SMD (Sega Mega Drive, or for my fellow Americans: Sega Genesis) is kinda a crazy and a feat for the developers that I don't think they get enough credit for. I'd say, maybe take that into consideration when looking at reviews.

Like action games should be.
Pros: - Satisfying twin-stick action! - Concise and direct; all action, no fat. - Djent score delivers amazing 16-bit OST. - Decent audio work and voice acting. - Cool artwork and moody cutscenes. - Random generation aids replay value. - Fun achievement list. - Challenging as hell, but in the right way! Cons: - Controls are not remappable. - Default weapon fire sounds dinky. - Some deaths are unavoidable. - Bad ending will shock new players. - A bit pricey at retail. SUMMARY - Excellent indie action game gets inside your brain and dares you to master it. It hasn't yet found the complete audience it deserves, but is held in high regard by those who have. The soundtrack alone makes it worth the purchase. Highly recommended on a sale!

Nop...
I'm sorry but the game is at a crossroads on what its trying to be. On one hand, "Xeno Crisis" is trying to be a twin stick retro shooter that's true to the hard-as nails nature of a lot of old school games; it accomplished this tenfold, to a point where I think it's counterproductive. On the other hand, the game is trying to present a narrative and have upgrades and elements proper of a modern game, such as different characters to play as, an actual sense of progression through the narrative, great soundtrack, and even mutliple difficulty options. The issue stems from how contradicting a lot of these elements end up being in their implementation. For example, the game has two difficulty options: "easy" and "hard", the game defaults to the latter, but it doesn't really matter, the game is extremely difficult either way. Easy lowers the damage of the bosses a bit, and it makes it so there aren't more enemies, but it doesn't really matter either way because the game caps your upgrades after a while, what I mean by this is... The game has seven areas, by the time I reached the fifth one I had already maxed out my health, damage, ammo, and speed, plus I had bought a revival... on the EASIEST setting, even then, the enemies still took a ton of hits to go down, and in the end I ended up running out of lives. A "Game Over" in this game, operated the same way as in classic games; you restart from the start of the game. This is a title that can be completed in an hour, but it feels as if the devs padded the experience by making the game hard as nails but without really worrying about much else in regards to balancing the experience. This isn't a simple case of "wah, the game is too hard" the difficulty here actively detracts from the experience because after a while it goes from being an element in the game, to the protagonic aspect of it; it turns into the entire focalization of the experience, and as an end result, it hurts everything else about it.
