One of the best RTT's!

I've played this game since beta testing before release, it is one of those obligatory play thru campaigns on an annual basis for me. The what-if setting, the graphics still hold up well, the game plays great, the story telling, etc. The only weak area IMHO is that the AI for MP is weak and the MP scene isn't what it used to be. Massgate.org has helped with that to varying extents, but peak MP in WIC is long gone. I really cannot think of another game that captures what this one has in a modern-ish warfare setting. Broken Arrow is reminscent, but is also its own thing. WIC came at a good time, and still really holds up to this day. If you haven't played it, and you love any kind of stragegy or RTT-style game, you're missing out, GET IT and enjoy! Even with the shortcomings, I still feel this is a 5/5 for what it offers, how it is offered. And once you patch for modern multicore systems it plays like an absolute dream.

Oh well...

The most important thing to do: \Documents\World in Conflict\Game Options.txt Set "myDX10Flag" from 0 to 1. Make the file write protected, or else the game will set it back to 0 !!! That's why the game crashes all the time, done it and it works fine. THere is no problem with the game, but with it crashing all the time... hence only 3/5. --__--

This game is fantastic

Ever since this game released I had dreamed of playing, and now that I finally have the opportunity I can say that it was well worth the wait and more. I cannot recommend this game enough for it's fantastic story, good acting, terrific gameplay, and beautiful visuals. Not to mention the sound deisgn between the sounds of the weapons, explosions, and units talking to each other. To the amazing soundtrack, which manages to give me chills each time a massive bomb is dropped on the battlefield. If you have the opportunity and love RTS games, pick this up, you won't regret it

Must play! It's Red Dawn the Game!

Love this game. There is nothing else the quite walks the line of large scale battles on land and air while also calling in fire support in the form of bombing runs, air to air strikes, artillery, etc. If you haven't had a chance to experience this game then you should hop on soon before it's taken down for bogus copyright issues with licensed music. There IS a workaround for launching on modern CPUs - browse the forums for the answer.

Not too complex, fun nostalgic RTS

I'm pretty sure I still have my original box for this game somewhere that came with a little chunk of the Berlin Wall. In either case, by comparison to what else is out today, the gameplay isn't too complex, but not so simple as to be another C&C clone in terms of strategy. Still enjoyable without requiring the time-sink that things like HoI4, Combat Mission, or others sometimes require. All and all I still find it fun. The graphics surprisingly hold up decently, provided you're not one of those people who needs things to look hyperrealistic at all times. There's some jank trying to get DX10 to work on this, but at this point, some minor snags with hardware and software are to be expected. It is VERY much worth noting the following: To get this to work on a Win11 machine, especially one with a CPU that has more than 4 cores, there's a couple of things you may need to do. They're easy though. 1) There's some modder's dll patch (that I just found through a google search), that's needed on some, if not many, devices. The game generally won't run if your CPU has more than (I believe) 4 cores. It's a literal copy paste though. Easy peasy. Worked like a charm. No wonky install procedure or anything. 2) Now that you're game is running, you might notice that you're getting a lot of crashes. Often when cutscenes are supposed to play. It'll say it ran out of memory. The game limits RAM usage to 2GB regardless of how much excess overhead your machine has. Do a search for a program alled Large Address Aware, run it, select the game's .exe in the game files, and it'll correct the issue.
