An old-school challenge in a crisp and colorful package, Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls revitalizes the time-honored formula of the original dungeon crawler series with modernized visuals and sound.

Choose each of your six team members’ class, race, gender, and moral alignment, then delve into one of several dungeons near the central town hub. Advance with caution — monsters are vicious, deadly, and attack in packs. Plan each expedition carefully, stay focused on your objectives, and know when to retreat to the surface.

In between expeditions, chat with the locals, pick up new quests, pray for guidance at the temple, go bargain-hunting for new/rare equipment, and more. With patience, skill, and careful planning, your party will rise from a gang of paupers to a mighty force.
The magic torches are lit, the monsters are ravenous, and the kingdom is waiting for a new hero. Enter the world of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls and experience a classic adventure reborn.

KEY FEATURES

Your Party, Your Way
Choose from eight classes and five races to build a six-person team with diverse but complimentary skill sets. Change their classes in mid-adventure to fit your needs, or focus on leveling up their primary class to earn bonus skills for the party’s benefit.

So Beautiful and So Dangerous
Tangle with a menagerie of over 100 distinctive monsters, from the traditional to the bizarre, all drawn by famed series illustrator Jun Suemi. The game also features character illustrations by renowned commercial artist Yuki Hayabusa.

Conquer the Dungeons
Every step through the underworld is fraught with danger, and one wrong move can end your adventure. But if you have the grit to withstand what the dungeons throw at you, both you and your party will gain enough experience to stroll through them like you own them.

Wizardry’s Rebirth on PC
The PC remaster of this classic originally released for PlayStation 3 features English and Japanese text with the original Japanese voiceovers, high-resolution graphics, and a brand new Turbo Mode to make exploring the game’s massive dungeons a breeze. All story DLC is included, and players can download the Growth Fruit DLC for free to give themselves a boost when creating characters.

Some perspective

First I'd like to mention a few things, as I've seen a few points pop up in multiple reviews: A lot of people seem to be saying this game "isn't Wizardry" because it isn't anything like Wizardry 8. But W8 was ONE game in a long-running series, and vastly different from all of the previous games. This game is made more in the "old-school" style of the earlier ones. Grid-based movement. Static sprites in combat, etc. If you're annoyed that a dungeon crawler doesn't give you free movement, you're probably playing the wrong genre in the first place. Also, people are talking about this as if it's a sequel to Tale of the forsaken land on PS2. While TOTFL is a great game and definitely superior, this isn't in any way a sequel or follow-up. The developer is entirely different and this is a much lower-budget game. Which brings me to my next point.. Labyrinth of lost souls was released on the *iPhone* several years ago, so naturally it's not going to look amazing (yes there is a PS3 version but they are technically similar). As far as my opinion of the game goes, I find this to be a pretty good old-school dungeon crawler. If you can cope with the basic graphics/lack of animations and fairly simplistic presentation, it actually plays quite well and I find it has the same addictive allure as many other good crawlers. I always want to push on a little further and see what's around the next corner. If you've played an enjoyed games like Elminage or the older Wizardry/Might & Magic games, I'm sure you'll at least find something to enjoy here.

Know What You're Getting Into

I feel like many people read something to the effect of "a modern revamp of classic Wizardry titles" and thought that meant Wiz 6 or 7. But this is very much just Wizardry 1-3 with an automap and a thick, thick coat of weaboo paint. There are a few quality of life additions like an automap, on-the-spot leveling, and spell descriptions, but LoLS is unabashedly old-school in a lot of aspects that some may consider best left in the past. LoLS features timeless classics such as: -Cancel spamming character creation to get enough bonus points so that your fighter doesn't start with 5 HP. -Having both your mages murdered by a trapped chest, even though your thief told you there were no traps. Also the chest is empty. -D A R K Z O N E -Cryptic wall-hints that you're convinced don't mean anything, even after you've cleared the game six times. -Vancian Magic! -Stats randomly going down when you level up, because you deserve it. The visuals are kind of pasted together and lack variety- but this is grid dungeon crawler, so it doesn't really effect anything unless you're a stickler for that kind of thing. Oh, and your party is going to look like the cast of some hentai, unless you avoid putting any women in, in which case it will look like the cast of some gay hentai. Despite the above, I very much enjoy this game. If you're a fan of the original CRPG dungeon crawlers, check it out.

A Step Down From before.

The game boasts upon bootup "Welcome to the Wizardry Renaissance," and yet the game feels a bit like a step back from "Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land," a PS2 game (Labyrinth of Lost Souls was originally a PS3 game). Compared to Tale, the dungeons here are copy-paste jobs of one or two wall types per dungeon, without much in the way of distinguishing landmarks, much less visual flair. The battles are much more static, without the moving enemies of the first game, and the UI placing the front and rear rows of the party on the sides of the screen is a bit odd indeed. Objects in dungeons like staircases and switches will appear disconnected and copy-pasted, sometimes literally floating in space, as opposed to being integrated into the game world. Even the mapping system is a bit oddball. Instead of buying maps that are mostly filled out, you have to buy maps just to have a blank map that fills in as you move. If you don't have maps, we're going back to 1985 with graph paper and pencil, hoping not to get it wrong. The game isn't BAD, but it's such a step down from the previous title, much less other games here on GOG like the Grimrock titles or Starcrawlers. If you've played through everything else by all means, you'll find a serviceable game here. However, you owe it to yourself to hunt down Tale of the Forsaken Land, or to at least play some of the better examples of the genre here on GOG, before spending time here.

More like the original Wizardy Games

This is very similar to Wizardry 1... the original. In fact, one could say too much? It plays very much like the original Wizardry if you upgraded the graphics, added a little bit of npc interaction, some sound effects beyond PC beeping, a light quest layer and an automap. Spell casting is the same, leveling is the same (but happens when you get the exp instead of needing to go back to town to trade). It's good for what it is and a faithful re-rendition IMHO. And while Wizardry will always be one of my favorites I do realize that some game mechanics of yore don't really fit well in today's day and age. So, if you're the type who enjoys that sort of Might&Magic1, BardsTale1, Wizardry1 old school dungeon crawl and grind sort of game play then you might enjoy this.

Wizardry is back

This wizardry is in line with the game style of Wizardry 1-3 rather than the newfangled Dark Savant trilogy, so don't go into this expecting the same style of game. It's a solid entry to the Wizardry Renaissance, though a bit dumbed down compared to Tale of the Forsaken Land(hopefully gog will get that next, along with Wiz 1-3). All in all, it's what you'd expect from a Wizardry game, dungeons and monsters waiting to mess you up and your party needs to get through it all to find treasure. It's certainly one of the better traditional crawlers currently on this store and the price of entry is very affordable for what you get. All in all, it's worth your time and is a pretty good entry into both Wizardry and turn based dungeon crawlers.
