The Witcher Adventure Game allows players to take the role of four distinct characters known from the books and video games: Geralt of Rivia, monster slayer; Triss Merigold, cunning sorceress; Yarpen Zigrin, dwarven warrior; and Dandelion, roguish bard. Each character has unique skills and multiple ways of overcoming obstacles - the choice is yours: do you fight your way to victory, call on your charm or try your hand at diplomacy?
Explore a land of mystery and spin your own, unique tale each time you play. The Witcher Adventure Game is based on the rich universe created by internationally renowned novelist Andrzej Sapkowski. Whether you’re a long time fan or this is your first contact with the universe, The Witcher Adventure Game will pull you in with its deep backstory and high replayability.
Art design taken straight from the critically acclaimed Witcher series of video games.
Play vs. AI and vs. your friends (online multiplayer and hot seat).
Clear, simple rules and intuitive mechanics.
4 unique heroes with different skills and approaches to problem solving.
Achievement and leaderboard support.
The digital edition contains over 288 cards and 30 monsters.
Pretty decent attempt to overthrow Talisman the Boardgame.
Less hassle, less confusion, simplier game mechanics.
It do allow some interaction - have not played as other three characters but the dwarf (and his merry dwarves) can hinder his opponents by clever monsters management _and_ in quite a number of cases he can choose which negative event to pass to each opponent.
Seems enough for the game with such pace.
_and_
as with Pathfinder Adventures, this game won alot from being converted to PC game.
The rest is... pretty decent.
However, since we don't see much boardgame>PC game conversions any attempt is usually a good one (and is accepted as better due to lack of real competition)
Charming adaptation of the Witcher's board game, which mainly involves traveling around the continent drawing cards, fighting monsters and ultimately solving quests for victory. Four unique characters to pick from, different approaches and plenty of choice during progression to make you feel in control - yet, the outcome relies heavily on dice throwing, which might be frustrating to some. For me, that's just another plus.
Beautiful, well-written, intuitive and, despite the simple graphics, enthrallingly immersive. No two games are the same. Also includes a perfectly exlpained tutorial that will teach you the basics in record time. Everything in the smoothest controls possible: the complete journey is done with just a mouse.
Well worth the price, if you ask me!
I'd say it's a decent board game. Better than average, but nothing mind-blowing. In terms of player interaction - the beta version had next to none, but the full version is much better in that regard. The new cards they've introduced, as well as the support quests, add some interesting ways to help/hinder others. For instance, you can draw a foul fate card that screws you over, as well as others. Or you can use a good fortune card to aid you, while hindering another player.
Support quests, which I already mentioned, add an interesting dynamic that might influence your route - another player can only get your support quest if you're in the same town (Dandelion's development cards can change that), so you need to avoid them if you don't want them to get extra VP. Or, if you have the resources to complete the support quest, you can position yourself in such a way that makes the opponent's next move more risky, if they wish to avoid you. They're mostly random though, dependant on whether you draw a card that lets you do something like that. It's still, for the most part, a race. Support quests and the War Track (spawns an obstacle in a region where there are none, meaning you can set those up for your opponent, if you make your moves in a smart way) are the only constant sources of player interaction.
A lot of the enjoyment does come from it being set in The Witcher world - the flavour text can be really cool and/or funny sometimes, due to the setting. Battling monsters is also fun, especially as Geralt, who can use Potion and Sign cards. Potion cards in particular are interesting, because some cause you harm while giving you bonuses for that battle, so it's a nice balancing act. It's still a fairly simplistic system though.
All in all, it's a solid board game, I had fun playing the digital version, but it's hard for me to recommend it to people that are not interested in The Witcher. Still, it's one of the best digital implementations of a board game I've seen.
You get your money's worth from this awesome boardgame and quite some hours of gameplay spent 'Offline' or 'Online'. Best when played with friends.
+ Exceptionally polished game, works terrific on aged tablets and laptops! + Graphics are astonishing. Animations are crisp. + Soundtrack and sound effects are awesome. Its imported from Witcher 3 for the most part. + Tons of fun repliability value, since most of the development and foul fate cards are randomized very well and the order you receive them (when and where) can change your gameplay experience drastically ( from a horrible lose to a decisive victory). + Player interaction is just right: depending on foul fates card that are in play and hero positioning you can make someone's life more miserable, or quite the opposite. With friends or random folks online you can strike deals to work together to achieve some goals, especially when you are not in the lead.
The negatives most other reviewers find are rubbish, or they compare this board game with some very high end expensive board game they have in hard copy. - The AI can sometimes goof up and do poor choices on 'Offline' mode. It happens rarely, and its usually just 1AI hero, not all. When it happened I looked at it like playing with someone new to the game, therefore a negligible minus.
In conclusion: buy the game, especially on a sale and have fun with friends. If you look at it as a single player game... well it will still give you 10 or so hours of gameplay, but this is at its core a board game ment to be played with friends, something most GoG reviewers seem to forget.
