I'm honestly not a huge fan of the physical card game either- the theme feels rather pasted-on; and I do think the luck of the draw regarding which cards you get given initially has too big an effect on the outcome. But it's OK- it's certainly competent. The New World birds used turned me off a bit, as aside from some of the waterfowl and a very few of the raptors, they're all completely unfamiliar to me as a European. The digital version is... nicely done, but largely devoid of interesting single-player content. There's no campaign (like the Galaxy Trucker digitial version) or interesting challenges (like Through the Ages), or progression of any kind. The AI seems competent. There's a special single-player mode copied from the physical version, but it was clearly designed for the board game and doesn't really work well in a digital adaption.

I've been playing the tabletop board game for a long time now and it never got old. It's a family friendly game that can be learned through 7 to 70 years old. There are even a couple of android applications to listen to the bird sounds (wingsong) and count the points easily (scoresheet). I highly recommend the board game. Having said that, all those things combined in a PC game really sounds alluring. I just think it would never give the satisfaction of playing face-to-face but during these tough times, but it may be the only way for many people to enjoy this best board game of 2019. Birbs are love, birbs are life!

A very relaxing game that I go back to repeatedly to play a round, sometimes two, every couple of days. Mechanics-wise, this is a spreadsheet optimization game: cards give bonuses, which you try to constructively stack, so that the effects feed of each other. The deck and the dice throw randomness your way that you will often find it difficult to optimally execute a strategy and will have to pivot in some ways. If you approach it as a hardcore games with only winning as your aim you will be able to memorize the strategies pretty easily and get bored while winning consistently. But this game excels not when you take a gun, a scope and aim for winning, but when you take some binoculars and just enjoy the birds, while playing some cards on the board in the meantime. You will still organically get better from game to game (admittedly, the game-play here is a much better teacher than the tutorial), in case the sting of casually losing repeatedly is something that would deter you. And then, you'll be able to just load this up every couple of days to relax and wind down after a long day. :)

I am not big into board games but picked this up on a sale. I like birds, so thats another plus. After a while I started playing and what can I say? The rules are easy to learn but the game is hard to master. Still, its very relaxing to just sit there, play some games while relaxing for the evening before bed and just get both a bit of challenge but also some bird knowledge. I adore birds. So a very suprising game. (Also picked it up for Mobile, very nice game for a lunch break or if you need to wait somewhere) Kudos to the developers, I think the expansions bring cool new stuff in. :)
