Wing Commander ®: Privateer ™

I spent many late nights playing this on a 486 DX4 100Mhz with a tiny 14" VGA monitor back in the mid 1990s. I would have rated it one of my all time favorites then, and haven't changed my mind now. If you have an old CRT that still works, use it while playing this game. It looks far better. Side note: Oh, and it's clunky at first, but once you get the hang of it, a JOYSTICK really makes this very fun.

Origin Systems, like Westwood Studios, was one of the most innovative developers of the 1990s gaming era until EA destroyed the company as they do with so many development houses and franchises. I personally enjoyed Privateer 2 even more, but this is a true classic. EA deserved an @ss kicking from Activision with their Modern Warfare series and I hope EA returns to its roots of the late 80s and early 90s as being an innovative company once again instead of vomiting up sameness over and over again. Not to drop any hints for future projects, like SYSTEM SHOCK 3 or C&C GENERALS 2, but really I should be quiet about these matters. Great game. Buy it now. GOG is awesome over and over again.

Oh, this game takes me back. I don't know how long I sat, playing into the wee hours, this magnificent game that to today's audience probably looks like cheap cheese. It is anything but that. This was probably the first space sim I actually liked, and even after Privateer II came out, a game I also enjoyed, I kept coming back to this one.

This game is really cool and offer an enormous space to play. A perfect game to wait for Space Citizen to came out ;)

While the graphics looked dated about 15 years ago, this game is still one of the most fun games I've ever played. They don't make games like this anymore. It's a go anywhere do anything type of game. Think Skyrim in space. I didn't even know this game had a overarching story arch until I had been playing it for ten years. Now, I just bought it again on gog, and it's my intention to beat the story. I'm super excited.
